If you want to hit the golf ball further and straighter, there are lots of ways to go about it.
One you might not immediately think of is switching out your grips… for the ones Bryson DeChambeau uses.
Reigning US Open champ DeChambeau is one of the biggest-hitters in the game. With the ability to achieve ball speeds in excess of 200mph ball speeds, he gobbles up yards with relative ease.
His prodigious power is no fluke, though. From his Avodo irons to his Krank Fire driver, the American is very particular about what he likes.
And that goes double when it comes to his grips.
What grip does Bryson use?
Currently, the Crushers GC captain uses a JumboMax Tour Series XL grip and – spoiler alert – it is massive. It’s almost like holding a baseball bat or a cricket bat.
They also weigh 123g instead of the standard 42g tour velvet grip, which is an enormous difference. The reason for the big difference is because they are counter balanced. This will make the clubhead feel lighter, with all the weight at the opposite end of the club, making it easier and smoother to swing.

Okay, but how does it work?
Because the grip is so large, it is designed to give you better clubface control. For example, if you are prone to a hook, this will keep the clubface more square through impact as the grip won’t twist as much.
It stays a lot more neutral, and this is especially if you are someone who releases hard through the ball.
What’s it made from?
Like all JumboMax grips, the Tour Series uses a StabilityCore to create serious performance at any speed.
The dual-texture outer layer has a raised hex pattern to bring added texture to the back and key gripping areas. A Cross Pattern on the top and sides of the grip, meantime, maximises tackiness and repels moisture.

Wait… so no more sore hands?
Well, that’s the theory. Because the grip is so big, you won’t be able to choke the life out of it, which, in turn, will give you a lighter grip pressure. That should take pain and strain away from the hands. (And that’s particularly good if you like spending a lot of time at range.)
What does Bryson have to say about it all?
Glad you asked. He said: “For those of you into swing weight, the Tour Series is going to make the clubhead feel lighter. And that’s a really good thing for golfers who tend to get ‘quick’ during the swing. The Tour Series will help you swing smoother and more in tempo, and we all know how powerful that can be.” (Whilst you’re here, you might want to check out Bryson’s current WITB.)
The all-important question: will these grips make you hit it further?
These JumboMax XL Tour grips make the clubhead feel lighter, and deliver better face control and grip pressure, so they should give you the confidence to ‘get after it’ a bit more. It make take time to adjust but, before long, you will see your swing speed increase.
As someone who has used these grips, there are definite benefits to them. The face control is a standout, as you will not see the ball turning over as much, but it also make you use those bigger muscles to create better consistency and speed.
If the JumboMax Tour Series XL sounds great but you worry it’s too big or heavy, don’t dismay – there are loads of other options at different weights and sizes to choose from in the JumboMax Tour Series range.
