Callaway Apex Ai200 and Ai300 irons review

The Callaway Apex irons range is one that’s been popular for many years, and for good reason. Last year, the introduction of the new Apex Pro, Apex CB and Apex MB irons helped Callaway to cement themselves as some of the leaders in quality irons.

But now, we’ve got two new additions to the Apex line. So, what can we expect from the Ai200 and Ai300 irons and where do they fit into the current range? Let’s take a closer look.

The First Look

As you can see, we have two great looking irons here. There’s no great deviation from the established Apex models, and why should there be? They looked stunning, and so do these.

The Ai200 is, in looks, not far removed from the Callaway Apex Pro and that is definitely a positive.

You’ll notice the Ai300 has a slightly larger head, which is there to promote more forgiveness. However, it’s not your typical cavity backed iron that looks oversized. It still maintains a fairly compact and attractive look. All in all, these are two excellent looking clubs.

The Tech

Here’s what Callaway has to say about their two new ranges, starting with the Apex Ai200 irons…

Apex Ai200 Irons are meticulously designed for pure feel, power, and consistency. These elegant hollow-body designs blend performance and precision in our most complete player’s distance iron, delivering performance that stands alone.

Premium look and feel

A forged hollow-body combined with a forged 455 face creates a Tour-level sound and feel. This advanced forged construction is coupled with a stunning, premium design that will captivate you more than ever before.

Our Most Complete Player’s Distance Iron

In addition to enhanced feel, the Forged 455 Face Cup delivers outstanding power across the face. This unique combination of power and feel separates the Apex Ai200 from the rest. Incredibly Consistent Ball Speed, Spin, and Dispersion The Apex Ai200 achieves incredible consistency through the Ai Smart Face. Using real golfer swing data combined with artificial intelligence, the Ai Smart Face generates outstanding speed and spin consistency with tight dispersion into greens.

Optimised Flight and Forgiveness

Strategically positioned MIM weighting ensures the optimal CG for your best launch windows. And the Dynamic Sole Design ensures enhanced turf interaction to provide more forgiveness through the turf.

The bunkered Verdict

I was lucky enough to get these out on the course at the Duke’s Course, St Andrews. As you’ll be able to see, I’m a huge fan. If you want to see me hitting them, and my full thoughts, then click below.

As you can tell from the video, I’m a huge fan of these. The team at Callaway really have delivered on their promise of irons that are consistent in ball speed, spin and dispersion.

Personally, I would love to game the Apex Ai200 irons in my longer clubs. Even for a confident ball striker like myself, having that extra bit of help in the longer clubs is a big boost.

When it comes to the Apex Ai3oo irons, these are brilliant for players who might not be so confident with their ball striking, but want an iron that looks sensational, while feeling like a tour-level club. Very impressive stuff.

The Callaway Apex collection is full of excellent options and these have only added to it.
