Callaway 'regains feel' with Chrome Soft

2014 12 Chrome Soft 12 Ball Box 2015

It may well have been over ten years since we last seen extremely soft Tour balls on the shelves, but Callaway is looking to change that with the release of the new Chrome Soft golf balls.

In theory, a softer golf ball doesn’t go as far as a harder golf ball but Callaway says it has invested years of scientific and engineering resources to develop a technology that allowed them to ‘regain the feel component of golf balls’, pointing to performance offered in the past of Balata-covered golf balls as a benchmark.

The result of this research is Callaway’s new core technology, the SoftFast Core, which delivers the combination of soft feel, high ball speeds and low back spin in the long part of the game.

The new core has been combined with its softest Duraspin urethane cover to create a Tour-quality golf ball with extremely soft feel.

As well as offering less spin for longer, straighter shots, the Chrome Soft also gives more control around the green. Despite its low spin characteristics, the ‘extremely soft’ urethane over on the outer layer grips the clubface and is able to get into the grooves of the wedge for more spin around the green.

The key to regaining the feel for Callaway is the low compression core. Most tour level golf balls these days have a compression of around 90, but the Chrome Soft’s 65 compression will let you compress the ball on iron shots for incredibly soft feel that will really impress you with its performance around the greens.

Callaway Chrome Soft – pricing and availability

Available from January 16 2015, the new Chrome Soft golf balls from Callaway will be priced at £29.99 per dozen. For more information on this release and the rest of the brand's golf ball line, head over to the Callaway website, callawaygolf.com
