Are you looking for a new pair of golf shoes in 2025? If so, then you might want to check out the all-new FootJoy HyperFlex shoes. We’ve put them to the test.
When it comes to golf shoes, there are so many different options in the market these days. You can opt for a spikeless shoe that prioritises comfort, or you can look to a more traditional offering that will give you plenty of stability and traction.
But, what if there was something that could give you a bit of everything?
That’s what FootJoy has set out to do with their new-look HyperFlex shoes.
To find out if they’ve achieved it, I took them for a test both at the driving range and the golf course.
I was a fan of the way the previous generation of HyperFlex shoes looked but I do think there’s been improvements on that front here. Firstly, the knitted look on the top of the shoe adds a nice aesthetic. It’s also practical, something we’ll get to later.
That goes along with the heel section, which I’m a real fan of. The TruFIT system not only allows your foot to slot in comfortably, but I do think it gives a premium look to the shoes.
In the White and Grey colourway there’s a dash of orange, without being overpowering. All in all, I’m a big fan of the looks of this shoe. Modern and sporty without being too in your face.
There’s plenty of tech to get stuck into here. If you want the full rundown on that, then you can click here, otherwise, I’ll give you a quick rundown from FootJoy’s key points, before getting into the verdict…
• ControlKNIT spiral-wound engineered knit technology with durable, easy-to-clean coating
• TruFIT System provides easy-on flexibility and secure, locked-in heel fit
• Responsive StratoFOAM tuned for golf comfort and performance
• PowerPlate maximises energy transfer by harnessing rotational forces
• OptiFlex outsole bends naturally with your foot to reduce walking fatigue
• Renewable traction with Pulsar LP Cleats by SoftSpikes
• Energy absorbing OrthoLite Rebound & Recovery FitBed
• Carbon Fibre PowerPlate maximises resistance to rotational swing forces (HyperFlex Carbon only)
I really cannot speak highly enough of these golf shoes. When I noticed that Justin Thomas, a long-time Premiere Series wearer, had started wearing these, I had high hopes.
Having worn these for several range sessions and on the course a couple of times, I can see why Thomas, amongst others, has made the switch.
Firstly, the looks of these are excellent. While they might not appeal to everyone, and I do think FootJoy make shoes that are better on looks alone, I really get on with them especially when they’re on my feet. They are athletic, without being in your face.
I touched on the knitted look earlier and I really like what this does, giving a bit of a more subtle and traditional look. A positive of this is that the upper is easy to clean. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this will stain like a knitted jumper, the material is coated with an easy to clean cover that means these will stay fresh for a long time.
Another thing I really like about these is the TruFIT system in the heel. In some traditional golf shoes, you might find quite a firm heel surround that can cause rubbing and blisters, which no one wants. But, this is not an issue here. The soft piece of fabric does a great job of keeping your foot locked into the shoe, while remaining comfortable.
One thing that I’ve always looked for in golf shoes is traction and stability. Last year, I wore the FootJoy PRO SLX Carbon shoes in competition and while they were brilliant, I did just think that spikes on the sole would help give me that extra bit of protection, even if it was just for peace of mind. In the HyperFlex, you get that grip and so much more. I can feel my feet are locked in place and if they try and slip, the spikes are going to stop that from happening.
Justin Thomas commented that these give him the confidence to swing hard at his driver and while I’m nowhere near the same speed as him, I completely concur. The OptiFlex outsole certainly helps to stop any unwanted lateral movement in the foot, which helps you to swing your fastest.
I’ve tested a few golf shoes this year and so far, on pure performance, these haven’t been beaten. I’m hoping to play a lot more competitive golf this year and I’m fully expecting these to be on my feet for those rounds. They are comfortable, provide me with loads of traction and stability and look the part too.
