FootJoy has revealed details of its new Performance Fitting System that can help you pick up an extra ten yards distance on your driver.
Created in conjunction with BodiTrak Sports, FootJoy now believes it can fit you into one of three shoe categories – mobile, structured or dual – using its new performance fitting system.
So, how does it work?
By only taking three swings on top of an iPad connected BodiTrak Pressure Mapping Sensor, FootJoy’s fitters can make an appropriate shoe recommendation. The pressure mapping sensor works by mapping how your feet work with and against the ground and how your weight shifts during your swing. It really is that simple.
Doug Robinson, FootJoy's vice president of golf footwear worldwide, said: "We've been making golf shoes for over 100 years and, with a singular focus on the game of golf, we've learned a lot about golfers and their footwear. This project has allowed us to look at the link between golf footwear and performance in a total different way."
Which shoes are in each category?
If you find yourself in the ‘Mobile’ category, your shoe options include FreeStyle and HyperFlex. If you’re in the ‘Structured’ section, you can benefit from DryJoys and Icon Black styles. And if you’re in the “Dual’ section, you can choose any shoes you wish.
What’s more, statistics from FJ's testing have shown there to be an even split amongst golfers. One-third of them will be suited to a mobile shoe, another third will perform best in a structured shoe, and the final third will be in the dual category.
Dr Sasho MacKenzie, sports biomechanics professor and BodiTrak advisor, said: ""We found that the majority of golfers perform significantly better while wearing shoes that are fit to their swing style. The FootJoy Performance Fitting System combines algorithms derived from thousands of golf swings, and swing information collected with the BodiTrak mat, to determine with a high probability, the best style of shoe for a particular golfer."
How did FJ's pros get on?
Tour pros Graham De Laet, Ryan Palmer and Rafael Cabrera Bello were amongst the first players to go through a fitting using the new BodiTrak system. Here's how they got on:
Our friends at FJ can explain it all in a bit more detail...
When will FootJoy make it available in the UK?
FootJoy is hoping to roll this technology out to specially selected accounts over the coming months with more and more fitters set to take advantage of it as time progresses.
