GEAR SHORTS

Ryder Cup week is officially here. Golfers around the world are bursting with excitement and social media has given a great insight into the gear the pros will use and the fans will be wearing.

If this fanwear, spotted by Sky Sports’ James Haddock (@JamesHaddockSky), is anything to go by, the Americans are really up for the battle.

Reed, white and blue

The players have been gearing up for this weekend’s main event, too, and it’s no surprise the red, white and blue is out in force from the American team.

Odyssey has created this special White Hot RX #2 design for Patrick Reed to use at Hazeltine and the American loves it.

Phil makes HUGE driver gains

Phil Mickelson had moved to a shorter shaft earlier this year to increase his accuracy with his Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero. A trip to Hazeltine for a practice round convinced him he needed more distance.

He turned up at last week’s Tour Championship with three different drivers, each with a shaft 1.5 inches longer than he has been using this year.

The first one he tried on Thursday was a disaster. He only hit one of 14 fairways. The second one worked better and he hit five fairways.

It was a Project X HZRDUS T1100 shaft and Mickelson confirmed he would be using it this week at the Ryder Cup.
