In the latest range of irons from Callaway, there really is something for everyone. We have the Ai Smart Face, a head made from steel and titanium, and heaps of forgiveness and distance included. But, how does the latest Apex range stack up against each other?
The new Callaway Apex offering consists of the Apex Ai200, Apex Ai300 and the Apex Ti Fusion, which all offer something different, but all sit in the same range.
So, how do they all differ? Well, we put them head to head to find out.
PROS
- Titanium face has a larger sweet spot
- Faster ball speeds
- More forgiveness on mishits
- With a great looking finish in a compact head shape
CONS
- The price range won't suit everyone
This Callaway Apex Ti Fusion iron looks incredible. It performs very well, too. This iron is made with a combination of titanium and steel, something not easy for Callaway’s engineers to combine. With titanium, you’re going to get high launch and high spin, while with forged steel, you’re going to get superior feel. Their brazed titanium structure allows these clubs to feature the speed of a titanium face, while keeping the feel of a steel forged head. All this combines to create a club with “unimaginable feel,” in an iron that gives consistency of a blade but forgiveness of a two-piece club.
PROS
- A forged 455 face cup offers incredible speed and distnace
- Ai Smart face delivers forgiveness on off centre hits
- MIM weighting lowers CG for better flight characteristics
- Tour level feel of that forged head
CONS
- None
The Callaway Apex Ai200 has enhanced feel and a Forged 455 Face Cup, which delivers outstanding power across the face. This unique combination of power, feel consistency, ball speed, spin, and dispersion is achieved through the Ai Smart Face. Using real golfer swing data combined with artificial intelligence, the Ai Smart Face generates huge speed and spin consistency with tight dispersion into greens. This players distance iron strategically positions MIM weighting ensuring the optimal CG for your best launch windows. And the Dynamic Sole Design ensures enhanced turf interaction to provide more forgiveness through the turf.
PROS
- A forged hollow-body combined with a forged 455 face creates a Tour-level sound and feel.
- The Forged 455 Face Cup delivers outstanding power across the face.
- Slightly larger profile that blends performance and forgiveness in our most complete game-improvement iron,
- The Apex Ai300 achieves incredible consistency through the Ai Smart Face. Using real golfer swing data combined with artificial intelligence, the Ai Smart Face generates outstanding speed and spin consistency with tight dispersion into greens.
CONS
- None we can find

In conclusion...
Three Callaway irons from the same family, that all serve different purposes. Firstly, the Apex Ti Fusion irons are a thing of beauty. Of course, they aren’t cheap, but if money is no object, these should certainly be on your radar. The feel and sound is different to what you would expect from other Apex irons, or any other irons at all, and the performance is incredible. The speed these create is quite remarkable.
All well and good, but most golfers will opt for one of the Ai200 or i300 irons, simply due to the price range. That is certainly not an issue however, as the forged feel of these irons makes them a brilliant option.
The Ai200 is perfect for golfers who want something that focusses on distance and speed in a more compact shape. However, these do still give decent levels of forgiveness thanks to the Ai Smart Face.
The Ai300 irons are larger in shape, with a wider sole that has the same performance qualities as the Ai200, but with a more forgiving profile.
If you want a little bit of extra help finding distance and forgiveness, then opt for the Ai200, but if you value game improvement performance, go for the Ai300.
