With the Masters right around the corner, I was invited to the Sky Sports Studios, the home of the Masters coverage.
The Sky Sports golf studio is really cool. With Masters logos everywhere and multiple screens, big cameras and a simulator, it was awesome.
If you are familiar with Sky Sports Golf and how they cover golf in the studio, you’ll know that this is where the presenting and filming takes place, as well as any swing analysis.

Not only that, but they also have a Trackman simulator, equipped with the exclusive Augusta National for the Masters.
I was lucky enough to hit some shots and play the 12th on Amen Corner at Augusta National, accompanied by a couple of familiar faces from the Sky Sports golf team, Nick Dougherty and Henni Zuel.
While it’s not the real course, it was the closest I’ve ever been to Augusta National and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited.
The 12th at Amen Corner is a short par-3 at 146 yards, so it’s not long, but the green is very narrow and there’s not much room for error.

Dougherty played in the Masters in 2008, shooting a 69 in the second round before making the cut and finishing T33. So, it’s fair to say he had an advantage, while he also had a yardage book from last year. It shows you just how hard it is to hit with each block representing a five-yard increment and certain pin positions mean there can be less than five yards of green either side of the flag.
So, with all that information, it was time to step up and play this daunting tee shot.
He went first, I went second and Henni played last. Nick hit a great shot landing back of the green, I went a little long and Henni just came up short.
Nick took the win, as you’d expect with his experience, but he was so impressed by the distance of my wedge shot that he very kindly, albeit unofficially, gave me the win. If you want to see how it unfolded check out the video below…
