I’ve recently added a mini driver to my bag, and to be honest, here is why you should, too.

Mini drivers are becoming increasingly popular every year, and more and more brands continue to produce one as a result of the demand.

You might be thinking: what’s the point of a mini driver? Simply hit a driver off the tee or a 3-wood. Well, that’s totally fine, but what if the driver isn’t working, you’re not confident with a 3-wood, you might not like the larger headed drivers, or you need a club that can give you specific distance or shot shape? If that sounds like you, and you want a easier club to hit as a secondary option off the tee or fairway, then listen up. Let me tell you, this club is a game changer.

I’ve been looking for a secondary option off the tee for a while because my driver doesn’t always behave, as well as the other aforementioned reasons.

There are so many mini drivers to choose from, all offering something a little bit different. But the main thing for me is the looks at address. The Callaway Elyte Mini driver is quite a large head shape at 340cc and is the biggest out there, so it could be a great option for someone who doesn’t like the big headed drivers.

The Titleist GT280 is the smallest option at 280cc but has a deeper face which is great off the tee and from the fairway.

The PXG Secret Weapon and TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini are both around the same size at 305cc but also have the most adjustability on the sole making them very versatile.

When it comes to looks, the TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini not only takes you back down memory lane, but it is very hard to put down.  It has all the original colouring, including a nice matte infinity crown, the speeder shaft and an amazing head cover.

Not only does it look great but it performs, as well. I hit the R7 Quad Mini driver five times and fell in love with it straight away. It was brilliant in speed, distance and the stability and the control was very impressive. I had the two heaviest weights at the front for a penetrating ball flight and the ball speeds were not too far way from my driver.

It was slightly longer in distance than a 3-wood but it had lower spin and a perfect landing angle. It’s easy to launch, forgiving on those mishits and has so much versatility. I loved it. I put it straight in the bag and I can see why this mini driver from TaylorMade is going to be so popular not just on tour, but for golfers of all abilities.
