Jason Day has been spotted testing a new TaylorMade Zero Torque Spider prototype. Here’s what we know so far.
TaylorMade look to have entered the zero torque putter world. Jason Day was spotted testing the Zero Torque Spider model by GolfWRX at Bay Hill, ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
TaylorMade haven’t released any info on this new putter, but we can see quite a lot just from the pictures and make some fairly confident educated guesses on what it’s all about.
This is the TaylorMade 5K-ZT Spider Prototype putter, which you can see pretty clearly the name on the sole of the putter. We’re going to assume that the 5K stands for 5K MOI, while the ZT will stand for zero torque.
Looks wise, this has a similar shape to the popular Spider family. There’s the all black body and silver face, with a black sight line. The top has some milling which gives it a nice premium finish on the wings and on the sight line.

The face insert looks like it will be the classic soft Pure Roll insert which we have seen in Spider putters delivering that soft feel and consistent role. The shaft goes straight into the middle of the putter, just behind the putter face. This is a similar style to some other zero torque design putters we’ve seen emerging on tour.

On the sole we have the Milled stamp on one of the wings, a nice blue sole plate and three sole weights. With the finishes and colours of the body, sole and face, we can assume this will be different materials to help with MOI and weight.
• Rory McIlroy set for big equipment changes
• Viktor Hovland making unusual gear change to help AimPoint reads
But also, the three pin weights on the sole will help with stability and the zero torque performance.

While this is just a prototype, and there’s no official information on this putter, I think it’s safe to say TaylorMade are dipping their toes into the zero torque market.
