Adidas has reintroduced the Adizero line to its range, over ten years since the original model made a lot of noise in the world of golf shoes.
The original Adidas Adizero shoes, which were popular thanks to their incredible lightweight properties and aggressive spike patterns, were worn by plenty of tour pros and amateurs alike. As a junior, everyone wanted a pair of these, largely because they looked like Adidas Predator football boots.
And now they’re back in the form of the Adidas Adizero ZG golf shoes. Of course, style trends have moved on a lot in the last decade, so these don’t quite look like the original offerings. But, what are Adidas promising with these new Adizero ZG golf shoes? Let’s take a look.
The First Look
I’ll be honest, I didn’t immediately make the connection between these shoes and the iconic model released in 2013, but after a closer look I can see the similarities. There’s the iconic three stripes which sit near the top of the upper part of the shoe, as well as the heel which has the same style of moulded cushion.
In the bunkered office, these were very well received from the looks point of view. They’re sporty without being too in your face – especially the all-white colourway I’ll be wearing – and they just look like they’ll be comfortable.
When you pick these up, you immediately feel how light they are, which is a big selling point in the tech from Adidas. Here’s what else they have to say about them.
Love the look of these. The new Adidas Adizero ZG shoes. Always wanted a pair of the original Adizero shoes back in the day so I’m buzzing to get these on my feet. Adidas golf shoes are some of the best in the business right now. 👏🤩 pic.twitter.com/1bhjEP0JPU

The Tech
Here’s what Adidas say about the three key technology points in the Adidas Adizero ZG shoes:
Lightweight Traction
New lightweight undercut lugs along the perimeter of the SPIKEMORE outsole aim to offer golfers increased lateral stability and adaptive traction so that they react to what the golfer needs based on lie and terrain.
A secondary cone-shaped traction system helps golfers feel flat on uneven terrain and is anti-clogging to help maximise traction overall.
Lightweight Comfort
Adidas combined LIGHTSTRIKE and LIGHTSTRIKE PRO cushioning in the midsole to help golfers feel comfortable and close to the ground.
In addition to an engineered tongue and INSITE 2.0 sockliner, Adizero ZG also features a molded heel cushion, which was inspired by the running category and provides softer and targeted padding to help offer a better fit and improved comfort.

Dynamic Motion
A newly designed DYNAMIC TORSION plate in the outsole extends from the midfoot into the forefoot in specific areas to help golfers with rebound, but also to avoid rollover and power leak in the follow through of the swing.
Design provides additional arch support to promote smooth walking, ultimately helping to reduce fatigue both during and after the round.
To help the footwork throughout the swing, adidas also made the medial side of the outsole curved and softer while the lateral side has a sharper outside edge.
“A golfer’s feet and footwear are extremely critical to not only the swing but also their overall enjoyment of the round. Adizero ZG represents the next step on our journey to provide golfers with a lightweight option that has technology specifically focused on tackling those important areas like traction, stability and comfort, all in a spikeless silhouette.” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf.
The bunkered Verdict
I’ve worn these once so far and while that was only to the driving range, I’m already very impressed. The first thing that stands out to me in these is the stability. While they’re designed to be lightweight to the extreme – and they are – they were supporting my feet nicely throughout swings.
Then there’s the looks factor, which is obviously important. On my feet I love the way these look. I’m always conscious of a new pair of golf shoes not being distracting on my feet when hitting shots and these certainly weren’t.
A big difference from the original Adizero shoes comes on the sole. The new Adizero ZG shoes are spikeless, which is in contrast to the old Adizero shoes which were actually frowned upon at some clubs due to the ferociousness of their spikes.
There’s no such worries with these, but the new SPIKEMORE sole does look like it will provide great traction. Lightweight undercut lugs are on the perimeter which are designed to provide lateral stability through the swing.
Once I get these out on the course, which will hopefully be soon, we’ll update you on how these fare.
