They may have lost Ernie Els from last year’s roster but Callaway are taking no time at all to find some more than ample replacements. Matteo Manassero has been added to a list that already includes new additions in the form of 2013 FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai champion Henrik Stenson and Harris English.
Manassero, who is in the top 50 in the world and plays on the European Tour, has been continuously successful since bursting onto the scene as a young 16-year-old amateur.
Now 20-years-old, the Italian already has an impressive haul in his trophy cabinet. He became the youngest player ever to win the Amateur Championship in 2009, while also becoming the youngest winner of the Silver Medal at the Open Championship at Turnberry that same year.
“After testing lots of different products, I am very happy to be joining Callaway and I am really excited to use their whole range of equipment,” - Matteo Manassero
Manassero’s first victory on the European Tour came in the 2010 Castello Masters and he has won every year since. First-place finishes at the 2011 Maybank Malaysian Open; the 2012 Barclays Singapore Open and the European Tour’s flagship title, the BMW PGA Championship, have meant he has progressed into the top 50 players in the world.
Manassero looking forward to 2014
“After testing lots of different products, I am very happy to be joining Callaway and I am really excited to use their whole range of equipment,” said Manassero. “I’m really impressed with everything so far and the Callaway team has been fantastic. I’m looking forward to starting the 2014 season with my new clubs at Volvo Golf Champions this week.”
Neil Howie, president of Callaway Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa, added: “Matteo Manassero is a great signing and is reflective of the more youthful, contemporary direction we are taking with the overall brand. We are all hugely excited to welcome him to the Callaway family and feel confident he will be able to add to his already impressive portfolio of victories based on the combination of his natural talent and the exciting new products we have for 2014.”
