• Casey puts Nike Vapor Fly driver in bag

• Englishman was first to play it on tour

• New releases from Nike on the horizon

Nike | New Gear

It’s safe to say there’s a big new gear launch coming soon from Nike as Paul Casey premiered the new Nike Vapor Fly driver at the Tour Championship.

We don’t know much about it as yet, but Casey gave some insight into what the new driver will offer.

“It’s bright blue and that’s the main reason I put it in,” revealed Casey. “I tested it back in May at Forth Worth, down at the Oven, and I actually haven’t seen it since. So when the box arrived in the tour truck this week, I was keen to get after it.

“The beautiful thing is the head design is very similar to the Vapor Speed from before, so the shaft just changed over from the previous driver.

“It’s a higher launch, flatter ball flight, and I’m picking up distance. I would have to look at the stats, but I hit one about 320 down the 17th, which I feel like maybe I’ve been losing a little bit of distance and haven’t quite got my previous driver dialled in. It’s one of those things, just trying to work on it for a long time, and out the box this thing was perfect.”

Paul Casey’s Vapor Fly set-up

Casey’s model was set at 10.5º and neutral with the same Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana White Board 73X shaft he has used throughout the season.

The switch did the Englishman no harm, either, as he went on to finish in a tie for fifth place at the Tour Championship, with his longest drive measuring 336 yards despite the wet conditions at East Lake.

The 38-year-old boasted an average driving distance of 287.3 yards, 3.2 yards above the tour average. Casey’s driving accuracy was well above the tour average, too, finding 71.43% of fairways in the PGA Tour’s season finale.

It is expected the Vapor Fly will be one of several driver models unveiled in the near future by Nike as the follow up to its popular Vapor drivers, which were launched towards the end of 2014.
