He revealed he was working on plans for a new clothing business in issue 140 of bunkered last summer. Now, Paul Lawrie has given his Twitter followers a first look at his exciting ‘Cardinal’ range.
The 1999 Open champion tweeted pictures of his new tour bag – emblazoned with the brand’s logo and colour scheme – as well as one of the baseball hats his caddie will be rocking in this, Lawrie’s 25th season on the European Tour.

Lawrie, who turned 47 on New Year’s Day, told bunkered.co.uk that the first Cardinal collection will go on sale in May/June this year. Comprising apparel and accessories, it will be a small collection initially, with plans to grow it each year.
The gear will be available from the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre near Aberdeen and online, and ‘maybe a few selected places’, with the intention to distribute it more widely from 2017.
In issue 140 of bunkered, Lawrie outlined how his latest business venture came about.
“We were in my bay at the centre one day, me, Michael, my eldest son Craig, Marian, and Michael MacDougall, who runs my foundation,” said Lawrie. “I explained the idea and said, ‘Let’s all go away and see what we can come up with for a name.
“Within ten minutes, and I don’t know how he did it, Michael came back to me and suggested ‘Cardinal’. It works in a lot of ways, not least because a cardinal is red and I’m a big Aberdeen. I just thought to myself, ‘Way to go’.”
