For a long time now, Skechers golf shoes have been regarded as some of the most comfortable in the game.

That should be no surprise either. Their regular shoes are renowned for being comfortable and perfect for those who might struggle with issues while walking.

When it comes to golf, the brand’s Go Golf range has had impressive reviews when it comes to pure out of the box comfort course, which is certainly a consideration for lots of golfers.

For me, one thing that has always been slightly off-putting with Skechers has been the look of their shoes. Clearly they appeal to some, but for me, they never quite hit the mark.

Step forward, then, the new Skechers Go Golf Prestige SL shoes, which I think look brilliant.

But, how do they perform on the course?

The First Look

As I alluded to, these shoes are, in my eyes, very easy on the eye. It’s clear that Skechers have taken some inspiration from more traditional golf shoe styles on the market and that’s no bad thing with these.

As well as that, the padding on the heels of these shoes, which Skechers call the heel pillow, is clear to see from the get go. It’s spongy and, putting them on for the first time, helps you to slip your feet into the shoes.

There’s no doubt these are well made, premium golf shoes.

The Tech

Here’s what Skechers say are the key features of the Go Golf Prestige SL shoes:

· Skechers Hands Free Slip-ins for an easy fit

· Exclusive Heel Pillow holds your foot securely in place

· Patented Skechers Arch Fit insole system with podiatrist-certified arch support

· Podiatrist-designed shape developed with 20 years of data and 120,000 unweighted foot scans

· Removable insole helps mold to your foot to reduce shock and increase weight dispersion

· Skechers Eco Flight lightweight and resilient cushioning made with at least 10% recycled materials

The bunkered Verdict

I tested these shoes out at the formidable venue of Machrihanish Golf Club, where I was really impressed by them.

Firstly, as I was expecting from Skechers, these are very comfortable. The support from the arch fit insole was immediate to feel under your foot. After a long weekend of walking the golf course, my feet still felt fresh after this round wearing the Go Golf Prestige SL shoes, which is a big plus.

There’s a removable insole in these shoes and while I didn’t need to mess around with that, if you are someone who wants to switch up the feeling in your shoes, this could work for you.

• Should you wear a spiked or spikeless golf shoe on the course?

Then, there’s the heel pillow, which really is prominent. With other shoes, I’ve felt some slipping on my heels which can cause blisters, which is no fun. However, that wasn’t an issue with these at all. Very comfortable straight from the box and onto the first tee.

Of course, these need to perform in terms of traction and stability and I thought they did this fairly well, although the comfort levels are the highlight in these shoes.

As you’ll see, there’s no spikes in the SL version and while the studs do a decent job of getting your feet in place, some players will prefer a more traditional spike system under their feet. Thankfully, Skechers do offer these in a spiked option, which will be a brilliant choice for some.

These shoes resemble FootJoy Traditions and one thing those do well is combine comfort and stability. While the FJ shoes are probably more focussed on the stability side, the Skechers, in my eyes, prioritise comfort. That’s absolutely not a bad thing and these are by no means unstable.

Overall, I really enjoyed wearing these shoes. They’re a classic looking shoe and supremely comfortable.
