One of the most popular lines from Adidas is back, in the form of the Codechaos 25. The last iteration of these shoes was back in 2022, so it’s been a while for those looking for their next fix in this range.
These golf shoes are certainly eye catching, and there’s plenty technology inside too. Let’s take a closer look.
Wow! That was my first thought when I opened the box to these. In fact, even before getting to the box itself, I was somewhat blown away. These arrived in a bright green, pink, white and black wrap, which covered a box branded with the caption: ‘Find Comfort in the Chaos.’
That’s all very exciting, and the shoes inside didn’t disappoint either. These are not your typical golf shoes and I love the way they look. Don’t get me wrong, I’m usually one to lean towards more traditional styles, but I’ll have no problem getting these out on the course too.
They are certainly lightweight and the outsole will clearly provide plenty traction. With that said, let’s take a look at the tech involved.
Here’s what Adidas have to say about their latest golf shoe release.
While pops of bright colors and its striking silhouette pack a powerful aesthetic, Codechaos 25’s updated performance components are what set the new model apart from other spikeless footwear in the market.
Specifically, the redesigned outsole features a new 3D Torsion plate which aims to help golfers with stability both during their swing and as they walk the course. The adidas team also found that the 3D Torsion plate provided a better overall fit and helped minimize midfoot bend, which ultimately can cause internal heel slip.
Golfers will recognise the iconic TwistGrip outsole but adidas updated the outsole with a new lug shape placed over a greater surface area on the outsole, adding up to 40% increase in traction-providing elements compared against previous iterations of the footwear.
To further enhance the performance of the shoe, the adidas team worked with engineers at BOA to incorporate PerformFit Wrap powered by the BOA Fit System as part of the BOA model of Codechaos 25. Covered by a zipper shroud, the PerformFit Wrap offers golfers another component aimed to provide a locked-in feel with additional stability. Codechaos 25 BOA will be available in both men’s and women’s silhouettes.
“Nearly five years ago, we made the bold move to introduce Codechaos when traditional spikeless models were saturating the market. The impact this footwear had then and continues to have now is another proof point for us that golfers are continuing to look for spikeless performance in athletic and non-traditional silhouettes. Codechaos 25 represents a milestone for us on how we’ve made this shoe better over the past five years, especially during a time where golf has seen such tremendous growth and participation.” said Masun Denison, global footwear director, adidas Golf
In a world where many golf shoes look similar to each other, the Codechaos 25 blows everything else out of the water. Sure, the looks might not be for everyone, but if you’re wanting a pair of shoes that will attract plenty of attention on the putting green, these are for you.
You might be worried about the levels of waterproofness in these shoes, but you really shouldn’t be. They come with a one-year waterproof guarantee and while I’ve not tested them out in really poor conditions yet, I’ve no doubt they’ll be absolutely fine.
The next thing you should know about these comes on the outsole. The Twistgrip technology, Adidas say, results in 40% more traction across the sole compared to previous Codechaos models. While I don’t have a scientific way of testing that number out, I can say these really do give underfoot traction. I tend to favour wearing spiked shoes in competition, but I didn’t find I was slipping around the course in these.
The nature of the material in these shoes helps them to be comfortable out of the box. The 3D torsion plate in the sole of the shoe helps to make these supportive without being heavy. Meanwhile, the upper of the shoe is comprised of a multi-layer knit. This helps to make these flexible, so when you start walking to the first tee, there’s no need for a break in period.
I would happily wear these on the golf course again, especially if I’m walking somewhere long and undulating. As I said, I tend to opt for spiked shoes in competition, but the traction these provide really is impressive, so I would certainly consider these spikeless shoes, especially in dry conditions.
Overall, these are really impressive golf shoes from Adidas. I never tried the original Codechaos line, or the most recent iteration which was in 2022, but if they were as good as these, I can see why they were so well received.
