A golf stand bag that’s designed to be able to sit on a trolley. Can the Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Prime do both?

I’m a golfer who likes to carry their clubs some days, while I like to get the clubs on a trolley other days. If I’m heading out for nine holes after work, I like to carry them, but if I’m playing 36 holes in a day in a competition, the bag is going on a trolley. Therefore, this bag from Big Max is right up my street.

This bag is designed as a stand bag, but a flat footless base, leg lock, and lower housing of the stand system means that it can sit nicely on a trolley. I tried it out on my electric trolley and had no issue getting the bag to sit straight.

With that box ticked, it was time to get it on the course.

The First Look

I love the look of this bag. I’ve got it in all black colourway which is really slick.

To the touch, you can immediately tell this is a premium product. The PU Leather construction (which is vegan!) is almost like a vinyl feel, which I really like. It’s clearly a premium product, which you would expect from Big Max.

In terms of pockets, this bag is well equipped. I really like the large insulated cooler pocket which is very spacious. I could easily fit two or three normal sized water bottles in here. There’s also a well sized pocket perfect for jackets, as well as a couple of valuables pockets on that side of the bag.

All in all, a great looking bag.

The bunkered Verdict

As I said at the start of this review, I am very much the target market for this golf bag. I took it for nine holes at Golf It, where I carried the bag, and was really impressed.

The first thing I liked was the 14-way divider for my clubs. This isn’t something I’ve had in my golf bag before, but the benefits are clear. It makes it easy to pick out the club you’re looking for and it did stop any unwanted club clattering. Also, the soft top is very good quality, which is going to help keep your clubs in the best condition possible.

The bag is slightly larger than other stand bags I’ve tested, which is to be expected with a hybrid option, but it’s certainly not too heavy to carry. I’m someone who travels fairly light on the course as it is, but even with all my clubs, half a dozen balls, bottles of water, snacks, a jacket and other bits, the bag was comfortable on my bag.

That’s also helped by the excellent straps on the bag. These are well padded and very comfortable, a key factor in a carry bag. Also, these are removable, which is handy for when you’re sticking the bag on a trolley. The straps are held on by fasteners which are easy to use, however they did make a bit of a squeaking noise on its first time out on the course. I’m pretty confident this will stop after a while, so I’m not worried about it, but it was noticeable.

Although I’ve only tested this bag in dry conditions, I’m confident it would be fine when the heavens opened. The PU leather is great quality, while the zips look well equipped to keep your gear dry.

Other small things I like are the towel and glove holder, which I also clipped my Shot Scope onto, while the velcro glove holder is well placed and a good size.

Overall, this bag is brilliant, and will appeal to a lot of people thanks to its versatility. Premium quality materials, along with a well thought out design make it one of the best stand bags of 2024.
