Is this the most adjustable hybrid on the market? In a word: Yes! Here’s what you can expect from the Cobra DS-ADAPT range of hybrids.
If you’re familiar with the rest of the Cobra DS-ADAPT range, you’ll know all about the FutureFit33 technology. That’s in play in the hybrid as well, which immediately stands out. We’ll talk more about that shortly.
Unlike the drivers and fairway woods, we’ve only got one hybrid offering in the men’s range. There’s also a DS-ADAPT Women’s hybrid offering high launch and forgiveness.
Also something that catches the eye is the all-black colour scheme. If you were a fan of this back in the original Darkspeed model then you’ll like this one too. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
FutureFit33
Yes, this hybrid features 33 different settings which will alter produce a different ball flight. That’s the same technology that Cobra DS-ADAPT fairway woods and hybrids feature and it allows players to adjust both the loft and lie on their hybrids to produce the desired ball flight.
Adaptive Weighting Technology
Low and forward centre of gravity in this hybrid allows for more playability. Coupled with an adjustable back weight for higher moment of inertia, helping with mishits.
Updated PWR-Bridge
The PWR-Bridge, which we see in all Cobra woods, now spans more of the sole in the Darkspeed Adapt hybrid. That allows for more flex, which will help with ball speed.
I’ve never seen a hybrid with this level of adjustability. I was going to mark these down for only offering two options – one for men and one for women – but honestly, you can set the hosel to flight the ball 33 different ways, so it’s hard to knock them for that.
The head is slightly larger than the original Darkspeed, which I see as a positive. The all-black colour scheme looks great, but it can give the impression that the head is slightly smaller than it really is, so a little extra depth in the head goes a long way.
As you would expect from Cobra, these fly with plenty of speed. I tested them out in Sotogrande and found that ball speeds for me were impressively high, without compromising on flight.
I do tend to get the ball low on the face sometimes and I found that with these, speed was pretty well protected. Obviously, they won’t work miracles, but I have always found that the PWR-Bridge in Cobra clubs works well.
The colour scheme, or lack of it, is something I’m a fan of. I think simplicity in club design is something to be applauded and Cobra certainly nail that here. James Tait, rightly, said that the laser etching on the face of the drivers is something that massively improves the look of the clubs, and I’d have loved to see that extended to the fairway woods and hybrids. Still, these are good looking.
Overall, these are great hybrids. As with all of Cobra’s range this year, you’re going to see marginal gains in the clubhead, with huge changes in the adjustability in the hosel. If you want a seriously adjustable hybrid, then this is for you.
