Duca del Cosma Bernardo golf shoes review

Winter golf doesn’t need to be ugly. The Duca del Cosma Bernardo shoes are proof that you can play in the off-season, without having to sacrifice style.

The Italian brand has released a new black colourway of their popular brogue style shoe and while I usually go for white shoes on the course, that’s not what you want when conditions are wet and muddy underfoot.

That’s why these spiked shoes are made with winter in mind. Let’s take a closer look.

The First Look

When I showed these shoes to a non-golfer, they told me I could wear them to a wedding. While I’m not sure the spikes would perform too well on the dancefloor, the Italian Nappa leather upper is certainly like a dress shoe. That makes for what I think is a stunning look, in a genre of golf shoe I typically go for.

The hints of red inside the shoe, along with the red sole, make these easy to get on with in the looks department in my opinion.

I think the Duca del Cosma Bernardo shoes look great on the course.

Sure, some might prefer a more casual look, but if you’ve got this far into the review, then you must like the look of these. Let’s talk tech.

The Tech

Here’s what Duca del Cosma has to say about the Bernardo shoes, as well as some of the key tech bullet points.

Building on the success of the Pro Spike Bernardo shoe, Duca del Cosma is now offering this style in an all-over black colourway to make it a perfect option for golfers seeking ultimate spiked performance over the autumn and winter months. It incorporates a durable Airplay 6 outsole with strategically positioned Softspikes Pulsar cleats and secondary 5mm traction nubs to deliver a solid stance and unrivalled stability at every phase of the golf swing.

With the exclusive advanced technology of a lightweight Airplay 6 sole: Soft Spikes Pulsar & Golf Spikes (Fast Twist 3.0)

Secondary 5mm traction studs for increased stability

Premium waterproof materials and handcrafted for exceptional comfort

Fast lock 3.0 receiver from Pride Sports

EVA midsole for lightweight, durable shock absorption

TPU outsole with toe protector for protection during the swing

The bunkered Verdict

This is my second pair of Duca del Cosma shoes and I don’t think they’ll be my last. Previously, I had worn the Positano shoes and while I do like them, I’m always someone who prefers a more traditional look in my golf shoes. These tick that box.

Duca describe these as the ultimate golf shoe for men and I can see why. The build quality is clear to see as soon as you get them out of the box. As with all Duca shoes, these are made with Italian Nappa leather, which I feel will last a long time.

Once you get them out on the course, the traction they give is apparent on the first swing. That’s something I really like in my shoes, particularly as I play on some slippery ground and I can certainly lose grip pretty easily. I can swing with confidence knowing that I’m going to be grounded in these.

Thankfully, on my first outing with these, which was to Golf It in Glasgow, there was no sign of any slipping, and I found them comfortable to move along the fairways. For a golf shoe that is aimed at players who are heading out in the winter conditions, that’s a big plus, and that’s thanks to the eight spikes that adorn the sole of these.

While I found these comfortable straight from the box, they are relatively firm, and I would recommend wearing some thicker socks with them on your first round in them. I like the firm feel, particularly when I’m hitting shots, but if you want something softer, then you might want to look elsewhere.

One thing I particularly like is how these feel on the top of your feet. The TPU outsole hugs your foot, making you feel locked in during the swing. A confidence inspiring fit, without being tight and restricting.

After the round, that outsole was easy to clean, which is a big plus when you’re playing on wet grass and, in my case, sand.

Overall, I’m a big fan of these golf shoes. As someone who plays a lot of winter golf, the last thing I want to do is take my white golf shoes out and get them muddy. These solve that issue, and do it with style.
