Galvin Green Ames Jacket review

Galvin Green has launched their stretchiest jacket to date, but how does it perform? We took it for a test drive to see how it does.

The new Galvin Green Ames jacket features new Pertex Shield stretch technology, which is what helps to make this Galvin Green’s stretchiest and top-performing jacket to date.

As someone who swings it fairly fast, I’ve experienced waterproof jackets that can be pretty restrictive on your swing. So, having this jacket, with its technology, is a game changer.

The First Look

Looks wise it is incredibly smart with a panel across the right chest and an athletic fit that’s not too tight or too loose. You have two pockets, a synch to tighten at the waist and the cuffs which sit perfectly around the wrist with the ability to loosen or tighten the fit. As far as waterproofs go, it’s a great looking jacket.

The Tech

When it comes to the technical side of the new Galvin Green Ames jacket the Pertex Shield fabric is what really stands out.

Pertex shield stretch fabric has a hydrophilic PU membrane, designed to attract and retain water molecules due to the membrane’s nature. This three-layer fabric is softer and more stretchy, and creates an impressive next-to-skin comfort with a ‘slide glide’ effect to reduce friction with garments worn underneath, and guarantees 100% waterproofness.

Not only is this incredibly lightweight and waterproof, but the material is sustainability bluesign approved fabric which is PFC-free. The Ames jacket is cleverly constructed to be extremely breathable, allowing your body temperature to remain consistent through temperature and weather changes. The adjustable chest tabs, adjustable cuffs, and drawstring at the hem offer a customisable fit for various body types.

The bunkered Verdict

When I took this out on the course it was cold and there was 30mph winds, making for some tough conditions. But, I was really impressed with this new design from Galvin Green.

The Pertex Shield stretch material was incredible. I was able to swing as freely as I liked, which allowed me to drive the green on the first hole, which is always nice. The performance is brilliant, with no restriction when you’re swinging. Despite the strong winds, I was completely protected and felt like I had a bulletproof vest on, nothing was getting through it.

What I found impressive was how lightweight and stretchy the jacket is. Each swing felt easy and with that slide and glide feel it doesn’t snag on any of your clothing underneath. When wearing it, I was comfortable and as someone who doesn’t enjoy the harsh weather conditions I’d play in tougher conditions more with a jacket that performs like this.
