We took the MGI Ai500 GPS all-terrain electric trolley for a spin to give it a full review and see how the best-selling trolley in the US and Australia performs.

If you’ve had an electric trolley for a while and you’re looking to buy a new one with all the bells and whistles, then the MGI Ai500 GPS might be of interest. You also might not be familiar with the brand in the UK and Europe, but it’s one if the best-selling trolley brands on the other side of the globe.

The First Look

This is a very clean, solid design, with a nice clear 4-inch GPS screen, four wheels with a swivel wheel at the front and an anti-tip wheel at the back, and is very compact when folded down, making it quick and easy to assemble in just two clicks. It looks really smart.

The Tech

MGI’s Ai 500 GPS has loads of features, so lets dive straight into them.  The integrated GPS is built into the 4-inch full-colour all-weather touchscreen display. This will connect you to over 40,000 courses worldwide, delivering fast and accurate distances to all parts of the golf course.

The automatic downhill speed control feature allows you to take it on any undulation. It keeps your trolley under control by actively keeping a consistent speed to prevent your golf trolley from speeding away.

MGI have engineered this trolley to be lighter and smaller, too, making it easier to fold into place during transportation. It has a 4-wheel design with a swivelling front wheel and an additional foldable rear wheel when needed for added stability to prevent your trolley from tipping on steep hills. The trolley also features quick-release rear wheels to make it more compact, and is fitted with all-terrain treads to provide more performance on the turf.

The MGI trolley is powered by an advanced Click & Go high-powered 24V 250wh lithium battery system. That can comfortably complete 18 holes if fully charged before use. The trolley has an adjustable ergonomic T-Bar handle for more comfort and is fitted with digital electronics, a battery indicator, and a USB charging port.

You also have access to the interactive MGI App. The App comes with maps and scoring, and your MGI Sureshot handheld device can be taken anywhere. When connected via Bluetooth you will receive notifications from your phone onto your Ai 500 screen, giving alerts to SMS, emails and incoming calls.

The bunkered Verdict

I’ve tested a lot of electric trolleys in my time, and this is a brand I’m not hugely familiar with, but I am impressed. It’s very smooth in turning, thanks to the swivel wheel at the front. It’s very straight forward to assemble and set up for your round using the app.

The GPS connects really quickly and gives you the ability to not only track your score and yardages, but you can have a 3D fly over of the hole as well. The control over the humps and bumps, uphill or downhill was really good and it’s very compact and easy to store. It’s definitely worth having a look at it.
