The Ping G440 fairways and hybrids are even better this year thanks to an even lower centre of gravity and a new CarbonFly Wrap.

The Ping G430 range was incredibly popular, thanks to the forgiveness and stability that it offered. So, how does the latest iteration from the brand stack up against it? Let’s take a closer look at the G440 range.

The First Look

Looks wise, these are really clean. With three head shapes in the Ping G440 fairways, there is the MAX, SFT and the LST. These are slightly taller than previous generation with all three featuring the CarbonFly Wrap.

The G440 Hybrid looks great with its shallower face design to make it easier to launch. It also has the CarbonFly Wrap which looks really cool and plays a big part in weight savings.

The Tech

Ping G440 fairway woods

Let’s start with the G440 fairways. The tech in these fairways is brilliant. Just like the Ping G440 drivers you have the Free-Hosel Technology. This time around, Ping has removed 11.5 grams from the hosel, screw, and heel section of the MAX models, mass savings which help to create a 4% taller face while maintaining CG height.

The MAX face is 4% taller than its predecessor for more confidence off the tee, while maintaining a low CG position for high-launching performance off the fairways. The Contoured Sole Design ensures that the club sits more flush to the ground and the face angle remains consistent. The new CarbonFly Wrap Crown saves weight, which is re-allocated to help lower the CG, delivering forgiveness and great acoustics. A lightweight, 8-position hosel enables adjustments for loft to further dial in ball flight for the best results.

In the G440 LST model a new high strength titanium face combines with a lightweight Ti811 body, 85g tungsten sole plate and CarbonFly Wrap crown to optimise mass distribution. This positions the CG low and back for faster ball speeds, with reduced spin for more distance.

Ping G440 hybrids

Moving on to the new Ping G440 hybrids. As mentioned earlier, the hybrids have a new shallower face which is designed to help launch the ball higher. The face itself is slightly thinner with an optimised face profile to help increase ball speed in the middle of the face and control ball speed on off-center strikes.

Just like the G440 driver and fairways, these feature the Free-Hosel design and have removed 4g from the hosel, screw, and heel section, which has resulted in a lower CG by 12%. Combined with the reduced face height to increase launch and stopping power, you’ll also see great ball speeds.

Like the fairways, the hybrids have a contoured sole design so they sit flush with the ground. The 2-hybrid is slightly fade-biased with a lower, more penetrating flight for off-the-tee performance. Loft has been increased by 1° in the 3 (20°) and 4 (23°), hybrids for higher launch with a neutral flight and more stopping power. The 5 (26°), 6 (30°) and 7 (34°) hybrids provide a slight draw bias and higher launch to help them fly straighter and gap well into an iron set. The CarbonFly Wrap crown is also a big feature in the hybrid again saving weight to help lower the CG, ensure forgiveness and contribute to a more muted, pleasing sound at impact. It is also adjustable with 8 position hosel.

The bunkered Verdict

I love the fairway woods. Very easy to hit off the tee, easy to pick off the fairway and produce a nice launch.

The G440 LST is penetrating, long and a monster off the tee. The MAX and LST are so easy to get in the air, with really impressive ball speeds and consistency. The hybrids sounded great and as you expect with that lower centre of gravity, were easy to get the ball in the air. These are a dream if you struggle with the long irons.

Overall, the Ping G440 fairways and Ping G440 hybrids are very easy to use, very forgiving and deliver great distance and speed. It’s absolutely worth trying these.
