PXG Xtreme Tour golf balls review

PXG has unveiled their latest additions to the premium golf ball market, the PXG Xtreme Tour and PXG Xtreme Tour X golf balls. Let’s take a closer look at how they perform.

The new golf balls aim to deliver enhanced durability and playability to meet the needs and preferences of golfers of all abilities. PXG say the new golf ball will deliver new Xtreme durability, distance, and spin for better results on the golf course.

The First Look

These have that classic PXG logo on the ball, which looks great on the urethane cover. The one thing I like at first glance is the alignment line on the side of the ball, which mentions the model of the ball. It’s a good size for lining up putts if that’s what you like to do on the greens.

The Tech

Here’s what PXG say about their new golf balls.

The Xtreme Tour golf balls boast a thin, durable urethane cover and an expanded core, delivering ultimate tour-level quality and performance. This enhanced design results in a soft feel, lower spin, and a more penetrating trajectory compared to the Xtreme Tour X, making it the ideal choice for players seeking maximum distance with an incredible feel.

The Xtreme Tour X golf balls feature a similar construction. This design delivers a firmer feel, more spin, and a higher trajectory than the Xtreme Tour, making it an exceptional choice for players seeking maximum distance and increased stopping power from their irons and wedges.

Both golf balls feature a three-piece construction. The high COR polybutadiene core is designed for high-speed performance, while a firm ionomer mantle layer further increases speed for maximum distance off the tee. The durable urethane outer cover on these balls maximises spin for green-grabbing control.

In addition, the Xtreme Tour and Xtreme Tour X golf balls have a 338 dimple pattern engineered to deliver aerodynamic characteristics, maximising distance with the driver while producing a high trajectory with optimal spin with irons and wedges.

“The launch of our first golf ball was a huge success. Now, we’re taking it to the next level with the introduction of the new PXG Tour and Tour X golf balls. With these options, golfers can confidently be fitted for and choose the ball that best fits their playing style and performance goals.” – PXG Founder and CEO Bob Parsons.

The bunkered Verdict

Firstly, the feel from both golf balls around the green is brilliant. The Xtreme Tour has a softer feel which is nice to chip and putt with and has great spin and control. The Xtreme Tour X is firmer in feel, but has more greenside spin which allows you to be a little more aggressive with your approach shots, which I liked. If it were me, I’d go for the the Xtreme Tour X based on feel and greenside performance.

But, if I’m looking at it from a performance point of view off the tee, I’d lean more towards the Xtreme Tour as it’s a little lower in launch and spin off the tee compared to its counterpart. They’re both great options, but it all depends on what you want around the greens and off the tee.
