There’s more to the Srixon ZXi product range than drivers, fairway woods and hybrids.
Feast your eyes upon the ZXi irons, packed with new tech and a promise to deliver superior feel, improved distance, greater forgiveness and more control.
Sounds good, right?
There are three models to choose from: ZXi7, the player’s model; ZXi5, the player’s distance model; and ZXi4, the game improvement model. There are also utility irons, if that’s a route you want to go down.
Let’s get into it in more detail…
The Looks
Whilst each ZXi iron differs in terms of its performance, they all share a broadly similar look, particularly at address. There’s a reason for that. Each ZXi iron was designed with a holistic approach, so that the irons can be blended seamlessly with similar shaping and a near-identical topline thickness. This has been executed perfectly.
The Tech
The ZXi irons are all about consistency and this is achieved, in part, through a process called ‘Condensed Forging’. A proprietary technique that strengthens specially chosen sections of each iron to increase their performance, Condensed Forging allowed Srixon engineers to utilise softer, better feeling material in the build of the clubs without compromising on feel or durability.
The brand’s own testing showed the ZXi7’s single-piece body material is 7% softer, while the face material in the and ZXi5 and utilities is 14% softer than the previous generation of ZX Mk II Irons.
Whilst the consistency is, well, consistent across the range, the four head shapes do differ.
For ball strikers who want tour-preferred looks, pro-level feel, and precision workability, look no further than the ZXi7. They are designed to deliver a more stable strike with an expanded PureFrame forged into the body and placed directly behind the sweetspot. These enhancements help the ZXi7 Irons a 9.3% reduction in vibration displacement compared with the ZX7 Mk II that they replace. In layman’s terms, it means you get a remarkably stable feel at impact.
In the ZXi5, ZXi4, and ZXiU irons, Srixon’s impressive MainFrame technology is back for a third go.
A variable thickness network of grooves, channels, and notches, the MainFrame is milled onto the backside of the face, helping to maximise flex at impact for a more efficient transfer of energy into the ball.
The upgraded design features a wider toe-side channel, allowing engineers to reposition up to two grams of mass for a lower centre of gravity and more MOI. That means increases in ball speed, consistency, and forgiveness.
Each iron comes with a Tour V.T. Sole which takes turf interaction to a whole new level, encouraging cleaner strikes and greater workability. For the first time ever, the Tour V.T. Sole also features in the ZXiU utility irons for a new dimension of long game versatility.
Last but by no means least, a shout-out to the progressive groves. From 3- to 7-iron, expect wider grooves, while the 8i-AW have deeper, closer-set grooves to ensure consistent spin across the set. Laser milling between each groove, on every loft, adds bite on every strike.
The verdict
An absolute joy to hit. Pure, buttery and consistent. Each of the three models does exactly what it claims to, giving you the confidence you need every time you stand over the ball.
I can’t not mention the ZXi utility, too. If you’re looking for a different option off the tee or something that’s going to help you reach a short-ish par-5 in two, it’s the club you’ve been waiting for. Not only that, it looks immense.
Overall, I’m very impressed. There’s something here for every golfer. Incredible performance and exceptional looks – what’s not to love?
