Sun Mountain Ridgeline3 trolley review
This isn’t just another push trolley added to the golf market. Sun Mountain’s latest addition features something we think will make a big difference to life on the course.
Vertical Fit Technology, as Sun Mountain call it, allows the upper bag bracket to slide up and down, so this trolley can accommodate bags of all shapes and sizes.
It might seem like a minor point, but if you’ve ever tried to put a bag on a trolley and the bag is too small, then you’ll know how frustrating it can be. Let’s take a closer look…
The First Look
You’ll be struck at how sturdy this trolley is as you take it out of the box. Sturdy does not mean bulky though. This trolley is sleek, and the wheels are pretty stylish.
It’s also available in some pretty snazzy colours, including candy pink. If that’s too much for you though, you’ve got white, black, silver, sand/hunter and sport blue available too. In the looks department, this is a winner.
The Tech
You might not think that too much technology goes into a traditional push trolley, but the Sun Mountain Ridgeline3 features some impressive innovation. Here’s what Sun Mountain has to say about it.
The Ridgeline3 push trolley features pioneering Vertical Fit Technology, allowing the upper bag bracket to slide up and down to accommodate small, mid, and large-sized golf bags to ensure junior golfers can use the trolley throughout their entire golfing life, as well as being shared among a family of golfers.
Compact and easy to fold and unfold in two simple steps, the trolley is constructed from a sturdy and lightweight aluminium frame to ensure top product longevity. A host of other premium features include the super durable High Impact Wheels; anti-corrosion EZ-Glyde stainless steel bearings and fixings and Anti-Tip Technology to deliver a seamless push on all terrains, while the Easy Access Brake Lever delivers stability on undulating ground.
An adjustable handle allows the trolley to be set up to the optimal height when being pushed, while an adjustable bag strap offers further custom fitting on a range of golf bag tops and moulds to deliver enhanced fit and stability. Weighing just over 8kg, the folded product dimensions are 38 x 42 x 66 (cm) to provide a compact design for storage purposes.
• Freddie Couples: This is the reason behind my strange bag set-up
“We’re thrilled to introduce yet another game-enhancing innovation with the Ridgeline3 push trolley at a time when we’re seeing a lot more push trolley usage and golfers walking the course across all age groups. We’re confident that this is going to take push trolleys to the next level and at the same time elevate a golfer’s on-course experience for many years to come.” – Nigel Freemantle, Managing Director of Brand Fusion International, the exclusive distributors of Sun Mountain products across Europe.
The bunkered Verdict
Sun Mountain launched this trolley back in the summer at the excellent Bad Saarow resort, which is home to 54 holes of golf. Perfect then, to test out a push trolley.
My first impressions of this were that this trolley is very sturdy and clearly designed to last a long time. That’s something that Sun Mountain is keen on, as this trolley could be bought for a youngster with a small bag, and still do the job when they’re using a tour bag.
Once you know how to get the trolley set-up, it’s easy to fold out and get started with it. The two-step process is simple and won’t add any time to your pre-round routine.
I used this trolley with one of Sun Mountain’s largest bags, the H2NO Staff Cart Bag, and it went on the Riudgeline3 without an issue. However, if I was using a smaller bag, like I often do back home, this is where the Ridgeline3 really comes into its own.
The adjustable upper bag bracket is an excellent addition. It really does help to allow smaller bags, even those with stands, to fit on the trolley. I’ve used electric trolleys where my stand bag needs to either go on sideways, or simply won’t fit on the trolley at all. It’s frustrating and this trolley solves the issue, so for that alone, it’s a great bit of kit.
On the course, this was a pleasure to use. It runs very smoothly, thanks to the EZ-Glyde stainless steel bearings and fittings on the high impact wheels, while there’s plenty space to store bottles, balls and other essentials beside the handle. Also beside the handle is the trolley’s brake, which is operated by a lever and works very well.
This trolley really is difficult to fault, which you would expect from Sun Mountain. They make top quality kit and the innovation in the Ridgeline3 is more proof of that.
