Vice Golf VGW01 wedges review

Not typically known for their golf clubs, Vice Golf has released their brand new Vice Golf VGW01 wedges. So, how do the new boys on the market before? We put them to the test in our latest review.

Vice golf has expanded from golf balls and accessories and entered the golf club chat with its new golf club range. Known for its direct to consumer business model, they now have irons wedges and putters.

We got our hands on the the newest wedges to see what’s what. First up, let’s dive into the looks.

The First Look

The shape of this wedge takes a more traditional shape that looks clean at address and great in the bag.

The full face of grooves delivers the illusion of a bigger face, but it will give you more spin and control over those mishits and off-centre strikes. It ticks the boxes with a chrome finish on the face.

Also the ability to choose the subtle colouring that runs across the back of the blade is a nice touch. We got a lime green wedge, but there is something for everyone.

The Tech

Let’s dive into the technical details of the new Vice Golf VGW01 wedge.

This is a triple forged carbon steel which will deliver precise feedback, so you’ll know when you hit the ball cleanly. You have the optimised sole design which delivers great turf interaction and with a full face grooves no matter where you hit it on the face you will get great spin and control.

The forged CNC milled clubhead is designed to give you the best control and spin around the green and with a full-face of grooves you will see consistent spin rates and control all around the green. The progressive tapered toe and heel grind delivers great versatility around the greens allowing you to be creative and still have the forgiveness of a high bounce. These new wedges come in the lofts of 50, 56 and 60 degrees.

The bunkered Verdict

I love these wedges.

I’ll be honest and say that it did help that I chipped in a couple of times, which always helps, but I suppose the wedge has a big part to play in that. I found it really easy to hit. I had the 56 degree and with the 13 degrees of bounce, it was forgiving especially if you caught the shot slightly chunky, you will still make good contact.

What I enjoyed most about this wedge was the versatility. The heel and toe relief of this club allows you to manipulate the face and play a huge variety of shot from so many lies. It’s also really easy to get out of bunkers, something very useful for obvious reasons…

Considering this is Vice’s first wedge, this is very impressive. I’d be confident to say they’re keeping up with some of the more established brands. Also, at less than £140 per wedge, these are pretty affordable too.
