Rory McIlroy has been spotted testing a custom TaylorMade Spider Tour X3 putter, with a stunning, one-of-a-kind, torched finish.
McIlroy is in East Lake for this week’s Tour Championship, but before the serious stuff gets underway, he took to the putting green with something a little different.
The 35-year-old has been using the same TaylorMade Spider Tour X3 since 2023, and while we’re not expecting that to change anytime soon, he was trying out something new in Atlanta.
This putter is the same shape as the one that McIlroy uses in tournament play, but it’s got a different finish, something you’re not going to find on the shelves.
TaylorMade describe this as a custom torched tour build, and Rory was using it on Wednesday before the season finale gets underway.

It’s not the first time McIlory has messed around with new putters before tournaments. In fact, he was spotted using something of a totally different shape last week, too.
The four-time major champion had a Logan Olson putter in his hands before the BMW Championship, a blade style which we’re not used to seeing in his hands in recent times.

• One thing has ‘frustrated’ Scottie Scheffler ahead of Tour showdown
If you recognise the Logan Olson name, that’s probably because the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda have tested their flatsticks in the past. In fact, both of the world No.1 spot holders used Olson’s putters in tournament play for some time.
Once again, this isn’t something we’re expecting McIlroy to put in the bag, but we’re sure you’ll agree it’s very easy on the eye.
