Scottie Scheffler might be making a tweak to his golf bag soon.

That’s because the world No.1 has been spotted testing out the brand-new TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini Driver ahead of this week’s RBC Heritage.

If you’re not familiar with this new addition to the TaylorMade armoury, allow us to explain. Earlier this week, the brand launched what many might have mistaken for something from the early 2000s.

The mini driver, which is based on the original R7 that was launched in 2004, takes the stunning looks of the original club and combines them with the tech that comes with a modern-day weapon.

If you had any doubts around the performance potential of the club, then a video posted by TaylorMade Golf on Twitter will put your mind at rest.

The clip shows world No.1 Scottie Scheffler hitting the R7 Quad Mini off the iconic 18th tee at Harbour Town. Thanks to TaylorMade, we know that Scheffler’s tee shot flew 295 yards in the air, with a ball speed of 168.3mph. Interestingly, Scheffler’s shot had a spin rate of 3,150rpm, quite a bit more than we’d expect from a driver.

Scheffler, along with Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood, were hitting a 13.5 degree driver off the iconic tee.

We’re not sure if Scheffler or Morikawa will put the club in play yet, but Fleetwood, who has used the TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver over the last few months, could be a prime candidate for using it in competition.

For those who have tried a mini driver, it makes sense why the club is becoming so popular.

These are designed to be more accurate and high launching than a conventional driver, while also giving players the option of hitting from the deck.
