Scotty Cameron Long Design Phantom putters review

If you’re a fan of premium putters, then you’ll be a big fan of the Scotty Cameron Long Design Phantom range.

In addition to the 2024 range of Phantom mallets, Scotty Cameron has introduced two new Long Design models, designed for superior balance and to give golfers a more connected feel when hitting putts.

That’s achieved by a counterbalanced 38-inch build, with a stiffer, custom shaft, as well as a heavier head, using tungsten sole weights. All of this creates a stable putter build. And they look stunning!

The First Look

There is a mallet and a blade style putter in this latest release. If you’re a Scotty Cameron fan, then you’ll love both of them.

The blade model in this latest release is a stunner. A very traditional looking putter that will appeal to those who like a classic shape.

Meanwhile the Phantom 11 is a large head, but it’s pretty stunning too. Clearly this will give players a stable weapon on the greens.

The Tech

As you can imagine, there’s a lot of tech in these putters. We’ll let the man himself, Scotty Cameron, explain what you can expect, with three key bits of technology to look out for.

Custom 17-inch 135-Gram Grip: Made especially for the Long Design models, the 135-gram, non-tapered 17-inch grip allows for softer grip pressure and controlled hand movement with more weight to counterbalance the increased putter head weight.

Custom Stiffer Shafts: Designed for stability and forgiveness, the stiffer, longer version of Scotty’s mid-bend shaft accommodates the heavier head weight of the Phantom 11 Long Design, while the custom shaft made for the Super Select Squareback 2 Long Design complements the model’s plumbing neck.

Heavier Sole Weights: Each Long Design putter incorporates interchangeable 25-gram tungsten sole weights.

“Most of the discussions we’re having with players these days are either about new alignment features or finding ways to quiet their hands during the putting stroke. We took two of our most popular models — the Super Select Squareback 2 and Phantom 11 — and created a counterbalanced effect with a slightly longer shaft, a heavier head and a heavier grip. This helps the player engage the larger shoulder muscles in the stroke. It’s a concept we’ve developed over the years working with touring professionals that can benefit players everywhere.” – Scotty Cameron

The bunkered Verdict

As premium putter makers go, Scotty Cameron is, depending on who you ask, the best.

We’re big fans of counterbalanced putters as they offer players who might struggle on the greens something a little different. A heavier putter will encourage a smoother, more balanced stroke through the ball.

If that sounds like something you would benefit from and you want a putter that looks incredible, then we really think you’ll love these.
