Deutsche Bank C’ship | Equipment

Jordan Spieth has switched back to his old Titleist 714 AP2s ahead of the Deutsche Bank Championship following his missed cut at The Barclays.

Spieth, who is currently second in the FedExCup rankings following Jason Day’s impressive win last week, had put the new prototype versions of Titleist’s AP2 irons in play last week, but says he hadn’t adjusted fully to the new design just yet.

“I’ve never had trouble transitioning between my AP2 irons,” said the 22-year-old. “I had some time at home to change in between the PGA and The Barclays, and didn’t see many issues or any differences, so I figured it would be no problem.

“I just felt that they were sliding through the turf a little different and the look was a bit of an adjustment. They looked slightly different. I still think they’re going to be a better iron. I think they are improved.

“Most of what I did was hit off mats with Cameron . I did some practicing off grass in the off week, and of course I practiced at the Barclays prior to playing, but I didn’t see many issues on the driving range. It was when I got to some uneven lies and whatnot I could tell some difference.

“My old irons I switched back to this week, they’re not beat up enough to effect it negatively. I figure I’ll go with what I have this year, until after the President’s Cup, and then I’ll find the right fit.”

TaylorMade ‘M’ goes AWOL

As you may well have already seen on social media, TaylorMade is making a big marketing push ahead of a brand new product launch in the coming weeks.

All of the brand’s ambassadors at the Deutsche Bank Championship have been supplied with new tour bags and hats emblazoned with the ‘Taylor ade’ logo. Here’s Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose’s social media posts from earlier this week.

We don’t know much about the product officially, but it’s safe to say TaylorMade is ramping up to something big!
