Success on tour before a new club is even announced is an equipment manufacturer’s dream, and that’s exactly what happened with TaylorMade’s new Tour Preferred EF wedge.

When Dustin Johnson claimed victory in the WGC-Cadillac Championship back in February, he did so with three of TaylorMade‘s new Tour Preferred EF wedges in his bag.

TaylorMade says the design combines ‘industry-first technological advancements with meticulous craftsmanship to deliver astoundingly long-lasting high-spin performance and exceed the performance of any wedge the brand has ever created’.

The key to its performance is the introduction of a proprietary electroformed (EF) nickel, cobalt face. An extremely thin face insert that’s just 0.25mm thick, it has been created using the electroforming process give a grooved and micro-textured surface.

TaylorMade says the electroforming process gives consistent, precise groove size and shape, while the nickel cobalt finish is impressively wear-resistant and durable, 50% harder than carbon steel, maintaining the soft feel to offer the combination of feel and performance.

“The Tour Preferred EF wedge is the perfect blend of craftsmanship and innovation,” said Clay Long, TaylorMade’s director of product creation for putters and wedges. “Electroforming delivers a consistent high-performance groove pattern that gives incredible spin over the course of thousands of shots. To have our tour players put them into play immediately after seeing them for the first time is a true testament to their performance.”

The second option is the popular and versatile ATV Grind. It has a reshaped sole that’s slightly narrower than the original ATV wedge. It is available in lofts of 54º, 56º, 58º and 60º.

Both models of TaylorMade’s Tour Preferred EF wedge are available now with an RRP of £119. For more information, visit taylormadegolf.co.uk
