TaylorMade’s range of players’ irons have been popular among pros and amateurs for a long time. With the launch of the new P770 and P7CB line, I’m expecting that to continue in 2024 and beyond.
The P Series has always delivered one thing above all and that is consistency. In the P770 and P7CB range, we see beautiful clubs which sit perfectly between other sets in the TaylorMade line.
Let’s take a closer look…
What we have here is two great looking irons which are now more compact in shape compared to the previous P7MC and P770 models.
Both P770 and P7CB irons have that thin topline and smaller blade which is significantly thinner, which look brilliant behind the ball. To me, these scream confidence, control, and precision that low- to mid-handicappers will love.
Here’s what TaylorMade has to say about its new releases.
The sole camber and progressive bounce profile of each P7CB iron ensures consistent turf interaction throughout the bag. To date in 2024, Rory McIlroy won with a P7CB 4-iron in his bag at the Wells Fargo Championship, and Collin Morikawa has had a P7CB 4-iron in his bag for his top-five finishes at the Masters, PGA Championship and Memorial. Morikawa additionally added P7CB 5-PW to the bag at the Scottish Open and Open Championship for better turf interaction in the firm links conditions. Tommy Fleetwood played the P7CB 3-iron at the Scottish Open and The Open.
Both P770 and P7CB irons are strategically engineered to provide golfers exceptional feel. P770 irons utilise players forged construction to deliver pure feel at impact as well as exacting sound, responsiveness, and feedback. P7CB irons are crafted using our Compact Grain Forging and 2,000 tons of pressure to create thee purest feeling, most responsive 1025 soft carbon steel possible.
“We designed the P7CB with the better player in mind. In working with these players directly they told us, ‘give me precision, give me forgiveness, give me consistency, but do it in a compact head shape.’ The new P7CB delivers a combination of feel and forgiveness in compact shape beyond anything TaylorMade has created in the past.”

Consistency continues to be a key note performance feature in the P Series family. Both the P770 and P7CB irons in corporate precision milled faces and grooves that promote consistent launch and spin for optimal trajectory and distance control.
TaylorMade’s FLTD CG is a prominent component in P770 irons. It positions the CG lowering the long irons and progressively higher in the short irons to foster ideal launch conditions with each individual club. Additionally, a tungsten weight and a slightly wider sole ensure consistent flight in the short and mid irons, while making the long irons easy to launch and exceptionally forgiving.
P7CB irons have a constant CG that gives players confidence knowing that every single shot is going to leave the club in a predictable window with the right amount of spin or precision shot shaping.
“We’ve done a lot of work to fine-tune the feel of the new P770. This is the ideal iron for the player that needs some forgiveness and performance benefits but doesn’t want to sacrifice any feel or control. In my opinion, this is our most forgiving, best feeling P·770 to date.”

I’m a huge fan of these new TaylorMade irons for a number of reasons.
They are very nice to look at. Both look great at address with their compact head shape and thin top lines and the performance is brilliant.
The P770 has great feel, control and distance, as well as giving good levels of forgiveness. They are brilliant if you’re looking for a little bit more distance forgiveness especially if the CB irons are slightly too hard for you to hit and you want something with more help.
The P7CB irons are fantastic for the lower handicapper. The control and precision you get from these is fantastic. They feel great, are workable and if you’re a consistent ball striker you can flight them any way you like.
As a single digit handicapper, I would put the P7CB irons in play with, but with P770 irons in play at the top of the bag in my 3-iron and 4-iron. For me, that just allows an extra bit of forgiveness, especially with tee shots.
If you’re a consistent ball striker looking for a new set of irons, I’d really recommend giving these a test.
