The Sounder Golf Bag review

You might call it a “Sunday bag”. You might call it a “one-strap”. I’ve always called it a “pencil bag”. Sounder simply call it “The Golf Bag”.

The Sounder Golf Bag, the brand says, “is a project that’s been two years in the making”.

“We could have gone to the same factories in the Far East as everyone else, and got them to make a bag with our logo on it. But then it would have been just another golf bag. And no-one needs just another golf bag.”

Let’s take a closer look…

First Look

You know when something looks miles better in real life than it does in photos? Well, that, except The Sounder Golf Bag already looks incredible in photos. So until you get one, you’ll have to use your imagination.

Have a flick through the images below to see it in its four colour options…

The Tech

“We started from scratch,” Sounder explains. “We tested every design tweak and every fabric on the course, in all weathers. We found a bespoke factory in England who specialise in working with high-quality leather. We sourced soft grain vegetable-tanned leather from Italy, and combine it with a 14-ounce waxed canvas to produce a bag that’s durable, lightweight, and weather-resistant.

“A 60-centimetre circumference metal ring with a leather-bound divider means that it’s big enough to carry 14 clubs if you’re teeing it up in something serious, but it’s still perfectly-balanced for nine holes with a half-set on a Sunday evening.

“We’ve added two zipped pockets – one for balls, tees and gloves, and one big enough for an extra layer so you won’t get caught short by the weather. High-quality waterproof YKK zips with metal pulls will keep the contents safe and secure, while five stainless steel D-rings provide plenty of options for attaching towels, rangefinders, dog leads, or Bluetooth speakers.

“The result is a single-strap bag that’s comfortable, practical and will age beautifully. It’s a product that we’re proud to put our name on, and we’re confident that it’s a product you will love for many years to come.”

The bunkered Verdict

Life is busy, and chaotic. There are too many distractions from golf.

I have two children under the age of eight and when I don’t have time to play 18 I try and sneak out for six, or nine, or even 12 if I’m feeling particularly brave.

I’m also an old man now and I don’t want to be lugging a full cart bag and trolley just to play for an hour or so. So I’ve always had a pencil bag ready to go for such occasions.

At just shy of £400, it’s quite the financial commitment. But like everything, you get what you pay for, and in The Sounder Golf Bag, you know you’ll get more than your money’s worth out of it.

Sounder may just have made the perfect golf bag. It’s lightweight, and has plenty of space for as many clubs and balls as I feel like carrying. What more can you ask for? Other than it helping get the ball in the hole, of course…
