Whether you’re a fan of TGL or not, there’s no denying that it could be a useful avenue for golfers looking to bed in new gear. In this case, that golfer is Tiger Woods.

In the past, any equipment change would be immediately under pressure on the big stage, but now, the chance to put a different bit of kit in play in a somewhat serious environment could be a big help for those playing in the simulator league.

While it’s certainly not the same as a PGA Tour event, there is something at stake. As any golfer knows, that’s when a new piece of equipment can prove its worth.

In this case, it was Tiger Woods using the league to put a new bit of gear in play for the first time.

The 15-time major champion had the latest driver from TaylorMade in play, the Qi35. He had the LS version of the club, set at nine degrees in the bag, as his team recorded their first win in the league.

That’s a similar set-up to what he used in the TaylorMade Qi10 LS, however he did tune that head to only seven and a half degrees of loft.

It’s the first time we’ve seen the new club in the hands of Woods, who still had the Qi10 LS in play during Jupiter Links GC’s first match in the league a few weeks back.

Whether the driver was to thank or not is up for debate, but clearly something worked better for Woods and his team. They defeated Boston Common GC, a team made up of Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy, to record an overtime win.

McIlroy, who is also a TaylorMade staffer, was still using the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, something which was in his bag for most of 2024.

The four-time major champion, however, has used the Qi35 before, as he had the club in play at last month’s Showdown exhibition. For now, however, it looks like the older model is still in his bag.
