How has it been almost three years since Tiger Woods rocked up at Augusta National without his signature Nike golf shoes?
The 15-time major champ shocked – and confused – the world when he teed up at the 2022 Masters in a pair of FootJoys for his first competitive rounds after his career-changing car crash.
Since then, Woods has split with Nike entirely and started his own apparel and lifestyle brand, Sun Day Red, alongside equipment giants TaylorMade.
And while we’ve been able to buy hoodies, polo shirts and trousers, as well as a bunch of accessories, for some time now, the shoes have so far been kept from us.
For good reason, it seems.
The boffins behind Sun Day Red’s footwear reckon Woods has walked 40 million steps in his golf career, so they needed to build a shoe “fuelled by the unique insights only someone with 40 million steps, 15 majors and 82 career wins can bring”.
The website adds: “With Tiger’s direct input, Sun Day Red built the Pioneer Cypress from the ground up and from the inside out.”

So what did Woods want? Let’s get nerdy for a moment.
“One of Tiger’s most important requests was that the shoe features a sleek 6mm heel to toe drop, allowing the golfer to leverage the power of ground force while not sacrificing support,” the brand explains.
“A premium, full-grain waterproof leather upper provides unmatched style and durability, while the Tiger Stripe deboss treatment in the heel pays homage to Tiger’s greatness.
“A golf shoe is only as good as its fit. With that in mind, supple, calf skin leather is used for the liner. When the day calls for 36 holes, the Pioneer Cypress answers with all-day comfort provided by two removable footbed options.
“As Tiger is known to challenge any shot from any lie, the shoe is constructed with a high-density TPU full ground contact plate with a 9-cleat configuration to deliver supreme traction in all conditions.”
That will explain why they’ve taken a couple of years to get to market.
Right, let’s take a look at some pics…
So, how much will they cost?
Well, when they charge $50 for a ball marker, you dread to think how much the shoes will set you back.
But they’re actually a very reasonable $250 – around £200 – with the two limited edition models coming in at $275, or £215.
The Pioneer Cypress golf shoes are available now from the Sun Day Red website.
