The new Titleist GT Drivers have arrived, and it features a golf first with an all-new material used in the crown.
All three new Titleist GT driver models are engineered to deliver total driver performance. I can certainly say these are impressive in feel and sound, as well as being it’s faster, longer and straighter than any previous Titleist driver.
At first glance from there’s a few similarities to the previous TSR range, which I was a big fan of. However there are some big changes, not just in performance but looks too. Let’s get into it.
In the looks department, the Titleist GT range is very clean, with that gloss finish really making it look the part. But, you also have new face graphics, which are designed to frame the ball squarely at address.
Not only that, but each model has new aerodynamic shaping so you can also get that little bit extra clubhead speed. That certainly looks great and if it’s helping you hit the ball further, who are we to argue?
Here’s the tech details straight from Titleist.
Each of the Titleist GT drivers features an all-new Seamless Thermoform Crown comprised of a new Proprietary Matrix Polymer. This unique, ultra-light material allowed Titleist engineers to place discretionary mass in the optimal locations for each model, providing exceptional speed and stability with GT’s Split Mass Construction.
GT maintains the classic Titleist driver look at address with a clean transition between the crown and the club’s titanium body, and the acoustic properties of the Proprietary Matrix Polymer preserve a player-preferred sound and feel. Refined aerodynamics increase clubhead speed, and a new Speed Ring and VFT face design contributes to faster ball speed on centre and off-centre strikes.
The sum of these advancements creates an exceptionally fast driver that offers extremely consistent spin and launch conditions across the face.
The GT2 is the larger head shape which will give you more confidence, forgiveness and distance. The clubhead is longer front-to-back and its clubface is marginally shallower.
Compared to previous generation ‘2’ models, GT2 features a more traditional pear shape, bringing its profile closer to that of GT3.
An interchangeable weight in the rear position allows for control over head weight and swing weight to produce personalised performance and feel.
Like GT2, the GT3 is 460cc, it looks compact and pear-shaped, and the clubface sits taller. Compared to TSR3, GT3’s shape is more aerodynamic, translating to faster clubhead speeds for the golfer.
With a new Adjustable CG Track, now positioned closer to the face compared to TSR3, you can choose between five CG locations (H2, H1, N, T1, T2), lining up the CG setting to the ideal strike location tendencies.
The optimal CG location will extract more speed and greater consistency in ball flight. These benefits are magnified even more in GT3 due to the new, more forward location of the track.
The GT4’s dual-spin control settings allow golfers to choose between more aggressive spin reduction or a more balanced and stable setting with more moderate spin reduction. This is accomplished by flipping a heavier (11 gram) and lighter (3 gram) weight between two positions. GT4 also has a smaller profile than the GT2 and GT3 models at 430cc.
If you want to see for yourself what I have to say on these drivers, then you can watch me here. But, if you want to read my thoughts, then keep on scrolling…
I was invited to the Titleist Performance Centre in Woburn to test these new GT drivers and they are brilliant.
The GT2 is larger on the eye and is so easy to hit and is packed with forgiveness and distance.
However, the GT3 was the driver I got on with the best as it looks a little more pear-shaped and has that extra CG adjustability to get it dialled in for you.
The GT4 was also very good. A little lower in spin and a smaller head shape, so it’s ideal if you want that penetrating flight. A slightly smaller 430cc head adds to that workability and lower spin qualities.
The speed and distances are where it really stood out during my fitting. The distances on the off-centre hits were impressive along with the ball speeds which were still really high and only a few mph off from centre strikes. What I really liked was the ability to move the CG track a little more towards the toe, which allowed me to get the most out of my drives.
All three drivers are very impressive. The brand-new addition of the PMP (Proprietary Matrix Polymer) crown has allowed the weight to be moved for better speed, forgiveness and overall performance.
I’m not surprised that these are doing so well on tour, I think they’ll do great for amateur players too.
