Titleist releases DT TruSoft golf ball details

• Titleist updates its Performance line of golf balls

If you don’t want to spend the money on a dozen Pro V1 or Pro V1x’s, Titleist has revealed four new golf balls for 2016 that offer ‘best in class’ alternatives at a variety of price points.

The range is better known as Titleist’s Performance range, which in the past has featured the NXT Tour, NXT Tour S, Velocity and DT SoLo balls.

It has been updated, seeing the NXT Tour, NXT Tour S and Velocity returning, while the new DT TruSoft has replaced DT SoLo.

Why the change? Titleist wanted to get the word ‘soft’ into the name because it felt the softness of the DT SoLo wasn’t obvious to golfers when they went into the shop.

The move comes on the back of a significant rise in popularity of ‘soft’ golf balls, including Callaway’s Chrome Soft, which enjoyed great success last year.

When it comes to performance, the DT TruSoft ball is, unsurprisingly, for golfers who prefer soft feel. Described as ‘significantly softer than DT SoLo’, Titleist has put in a new core and cover to achieve that soft feel without sacrificing any distance.

Muchael Mahoney, director of Titleist golf ball product management, said: “Through our extensive testing with golfers, we know there is a growing interest for extremely soft feel, yet golfers still want performance into and around the green.

“DT TruSoft represents the best combination of very soft feel and the all-around performance of distance and playability you expect from a Titleist golf ball.

“It is significantly softer than DT SoLo, which was already the softest compression golf ball in our line, and exceeds the performance of other products in this category as many of our competitors sacrifice either short game spin or distance.”

Elsewhere in the line, the NXT Tour has been built for even longer distance. The new NXT Tour S, meanwhile, has focussed on its softest feel yet. The Velocity rounds off the line and combines distance with feel.

Mahoney continued: “At Titleist, our goal is always to deliver the best performing product we possibly can, and these new balls represent the best performing golf balls in their respective categories.”
