• Fairway woods and hybrids complete woods line-up

• Hybrid has been completely redesigned

• Two new sets of ‘game improver’ irons also enter family

Nike | Vapor Fly

Alongside the new drivers, Nike’s Vapor Fly family features new fairway wood, hybrid and iron designs.

All designed in Nike Golf’s R&D hub in Fort Worth, Texas, the Vapor Fly series has been designed to give an overall higher launch angle, while keeping spin under control.

The Vapor Fly fairway wood uses a ‘tour-authentic’ chassis with tech that has been upgraded ahead of the launch. Featuring much of the same technology found in the drivers, the Flightweight crown has the biggest impact. Extremely thin and lightweight, the removal of weight has allowed Nike to move it lower for a higher launch angle with less spin. Five models will be released with the FlexLoft technology allowing for lofts from 12º to 22º.

While the majority of the clubs in the Vapor Fly line are clear progressions from their predecessors, the hybrid has been completely redesigned for 2016. Nike worked with a number of its tour pros, including Francesco Molinari to create a hybrid with a tour-profile for maximum versatility and shot making.

There are two new irons in the range, too, and they’re in the ‘game improver’ category. While the original Vapor irons from 2015 also remain in the family, Nike has added these irons to ensure it encompasses a wide range of players.

Its R&D department has pushed weight lower and towards the perimeter of the head for consistent, high and long approach shots with feel added in.

Modern Muscle technology positions the centre of gravity behind the middle of the face, creating the perfect mix of stability, energy transfer and feel for consistent performance.

The combination of a variable thickness, flexible, highly forgiving face and stiffened Flybeams in the head increase ball speed with less penalising mis-hits for more consistency.

The Vapor Fly Pro irons, meanwhile, have been designed with distance and forgiveness in mind, while maintaining a profile that is preferred by the pros. Featuring the same technology as the standard Vapor irons, it’s a game improvement iron that has forgiveness with more workability than a traditional game-improvement iron.
