It's no surprise whatsoever that Cruden Bay makes such a big impression on almost everyone who plays it, the course being a classic Scottish links test in every way.
At just 6395 yards, it might not be long when it comes to championship standards, but it's not length where this course comes into its own.
The opening two holes are fairly gentle at this course, before the third takes you to a tiny green, through a narrow and well guarded entrance. A short par-4 that can flummox anyone. The following stretch of holes includes some of the most difficult on the course, with the demanding par-3 4th a real highlight.
Later in the round, back-to-back par-3s come at the 15th and 16th holes, with the 15th a blind hole.
It's a place where you have to show some imagination and a course where you're guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face.
