MacLeod Course, Trump International

Where: Balmedie, Aberdeenshire
Designer: Martin Hawtree
ETA: TBC

Named for site owner Donald Trump’s mother, a second course at Trump International in Aberdeenshire was finally approved by Aberdeen City Council in the north-east late in 2020.

To
be built adjacent to the existing 18-hole course on the Menie Estate,
plans for the former US president’s second track were approved by local
councillors
in September 2019. Various campaigners subsequently called for that
decision to be overturned but to no avail, full planning permission for
the Martin Hawtree-designed links being granted last October.

According to the Trump Organisation,
the new course “will contribute towards the significant social and
economic benefits expected to be delivered by the wider development
proposals within the Menie estate”.

Shortly after the plans for the second course were first approved last year, councillors also rubber-stamped plans for 550 houses to be built at the Menie resort, as well as shops and food outlets.
