The clash at Kiawah Island in South Carolina was played at the time of the Gulf War and patriotism was coursing through the veins of the US crowds and one or two players. Corey Pavin and Paul Azinger were the most vocal, branding it the ‘Golf War’. USA achieved victory, but it is widely noted as a match which wasn’t a good advert for the sport or event.
