Mike Weir and Jim Furyk have finalised their Presidents Cup teams for this month’s clash at Royal Montreal.

Furyk’s USA team will travel to Canada to face Weir’s International side looking for its first win since 1998 and just its second in the 30-year history of the competition.

Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day and Byeong Hun An qualified automatically for the hosts, while Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala had already earned their spots for the US side.

Weir decided to strengthen his team with South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Korean Si Woo Kim, Australian Min Woo Lee, and Canadian trio Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith.

Conners finished 7th in the qualification standings, Lee 9th, Bezuidenhout 10th, Pendrith 11th, Taylor 12th, Kim 14th, and Hughes 15th.

Australian Cam Davis, who finished 8th, missed out, as did Adam Hadwin, Erik van Rooyen and Ryan Fox, who finished 13th, 16th and 18th respectively.

Furyk, meanwhile, kept things simple, picking the next six in the Presidents Cup standings: Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman and Max Homa.

Bradley, next year’s Ryder Cup captain, will also serve as an assistant to Furyk.

“When I named Keegan as a captain’s assistant for the Presidents Cup I knew there was a chance he would play his way onto the US team,” Furyk explained. “And I can say without a doubt he did just that.

“The grit he showed in the final round in Memphis followed by the win in Denver exemplified the competitive nature he has always played with, and I know he will bring that same fire to Royal Montreal in a few weeks.”

As it is a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, it means those contracted to LIV Golf are barred from playing, so the likes of five-time major winner Brooks Koepka and US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau cannot pull on the red, white and blue, while Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann will be missing for the home side.

Also not heading to Montreal is Jordan Spieth, who has played all but one editions of the Presidents and Ryder Cups since his debut in 2013, and Justin Thomas, who last missed this competition in 2015.

Another player staying at home is Billy Horschel, who told the Golf Channel’s Matt Adams on Tuesday morning that Furyk had told him he won’t be there.
