Royal County Down

We know what you’re thinking: Yes, this is a premium green fee, but it is the definition of a bucket list venue. There’s a reason the Championship course is regularly around the top of course rankings. Among the most scenic course in the British Isles, views here are ripped right off postcards. Simply links golf at its finest.

Portstewart
Green fee: From £275
Just around the corner from Royal Portrush, you’ll find the mesmerising links of Portstewart. Jon Rahm once called the front nine “the best in the world”. Who are we to argue? Founded in 1894, it’s home to three stunning courses but the Strand is number one. Play it in April or October and the green fee comes down to £165.

Concra Wood Golf & Country Club
Green fee: From £45
At the other end of the green fee scale is the 18-hole championship golf course at Concra Wood. Not only is it a pleasure on the eyes, but it’s mighty fun to play, as well. Situated in Castleblayney, County Monaghan, the course overlooks the stunning Lough Muckno and is in remarkable condition. A wallet-friendly option that is too good to avoid.

Portsalon Golf Club
Green fee: From £150
One of the oldest clubs in Ireland, Portsalon opened in 1891 and is a natural links with a backdrop painted from mountains, beach and sea. You’ll need to drive over the beach on the second hole, while towering sand dunes above it come into play throughout. Mighty fun and with double greens like the Old Course, it’s a unique venue.

Druids Glen
Green fee: From £120
If you want a taste of Augusta National, look no further than County Wicklow in Ireland. Designed by Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock, Druids Glen re-opened in the summer of 2023 and is known as the ‘Augusta of Europe’ for its stunning championship course. Formerly an Irish Open host venue, Druids Glen sits in a picturesque landscape where luscious fairways are never far away.
