Xander Schauffele is the 2024 Champion Golfer of the Year.

The American, who was for so long building one of the most consistent major resumes, is now a two-time major champion.

He started the day in a six-man logjam for second at Royal Troon but found his birdie best to catapult up the leaderboard and add to his PGA Championship win in May.

The last man to win those two majors in the same year? Rory McIlroy.

Here are 9 things Schauffele will receive for winning the 152nd Open Championship.

• The Open: How every LIV golfer fared at Royal Troon

• The Open: Scottish star wins Silver Medal

1. The Claret Jug

The prize that 158 players arrived at Royal Troon for. A plethora of golf greats have lifted the Claret Jug – also known as The Golf Champion Trophy – since it was first awarded in 1872. Now, Schauffele will find his name alongside them.

The original trophy is locked away at the clubhouse of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, so he will receive a replica to take home for a year before another replica that can go in his trophy cabinet.

2. The Gold Medal

Another piece of historic silverware for Schauffele. A Gold Medal has been awarded to the winner since 1872, when it replaced the original Challenge Belt – used as the Claret Jug wasn’t ready.

3. A record payout

The 30-year-old leaves south Ayrshire $3.1 million richer. It’s part of a $500,000 boost to the total prize purse from 12 months ago. R&A chief Martin Slumbers didn’t want to pump it up too much, raising concerns over long-term financial sustainability. Schauffele won’t care, though, he’s earned over $7.6 million from this major season.

4. Ryder Cup points

Schauffele’s place in New York was never in doubt. But Keegan Bradley now knows one man who is guaranteed to be on his team.

Meanwhile, Xander can also look forward to…

5. Exemption into The Open until 2049

As a past champion, Schauffele will be exempt into The Open until the age of 55.

6. A five-year exemption into all major championships

7. A five-year exemption into The PLAYERS Championship

8. 100 Official World Golf Ranking Points

9. 600 FedEx Cup points
