The 2024 DP World Tour season is about to come to an end in the Middle East.

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the first of two tournaments that make up the DP World Tour playoffs, takes place at Yas Links from November 7-11.

The top 70 players on the Race to Dubai Standings have qualified for this limited field event, with only the top 50 securing a place in the following week’s DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

Rory McIlroy headlines the field in Abu Dhabi at an event in which he has four runner-up finishes. The Northern Irishman is primed to win a sixth Order of Merit on the European circuit, as he continues to chase down Colin Montgomerie’s record of eight.

• 7 big names missing from the DP World Tour play-offs

• 9 ways to enjoy golf on a tight budget

Jon Rahm qualified for the event after strong finishes on his return to Europe this autumn, but has decided not to enter. Ludvig Aberg and Billy Horschel are other notable absentees.

Otherwise, a stacked field is set with plenty on the line in the penultimate event of the season. The top ten players in the Race to Dubai not already exempt will earn PGA Tour cards, so this is a crucial event to secure points ahead of the showpiece finale in Dubai.

LIV Golf players Tyrrell Hatton, Joaquin Niemann and Adrian Meronk are also back on the DP World Tour.

The bunkered bet

Daniel Brown 125/1

McIlroy of course is the man to beat and the field is stacked but the odds of Daniel Brown, the breakthrough star of the Open, are impossible to ignore. Yas Links prides itself as the “true links” test in the Middle East and Brown’s top finishes this season include T10 at Royal Troon and a T4 at the Irish Open at Royal County Down. Brown has the game to contend in Abu Dhabi.
