One last week of major championship golf in 2024 and what a place to have it.

The Old Course at St Andrews will host the 2024 AIG Women’s Open, bringing a world-class field to the Home of Golf.

It’s the second event in a two-week Scottish stint after last week’s Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links.

And at the Ayrshire track, two major champions – Georgia Hall and Celine Boutier – made the same admission about St Andrews: bring it into the women’s game more.

The course will play just under 7,000 yards for the pros this week and mark the first time in 11 years that the championship has been played here.

Stacy Lewis hoisted the trophy into the sky that week and she’ll be around until Sunday this year, too, irrespective of whether she makes the cut or not.

As the US Solheim Cup captain, Lewis will have her eye on a few players ahead of the match in Virginia next month, as the qualification process ends following the Women’s Open.

There’s also the small matter of a $9 million purse to play for, with just under $1.4 million heading home with the winner.

Hannah Green 35/1

The Australian has had a fine season, winning twice on the LPGA Tour and finishing fourth at the Olympics. But she can go one better and join Stacy Lewis and Lorena Ochoa as the only two women to win the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews. One of the best putters on tour, Green’s solid approach play and scoring power should help her into contention.
