It’s the end of the road for some of the world’s best golfers on the Old Course.
The halfway cut has fallen at this year’s AIG Women’s Open and there are a number of big name casualties at a windswept St Andrews.
Nelly Korda leads a star-studded group of contenders at the Home of Golf, but several of her LPGA rivals were beaten by the brutal links on the opening two days.
• AIG Women’s Open hopeful disqualified after caddie blunder
• McEwan: St Andrews is over-used. It’s time to cut back.
Here are some big-hitters who won’t be teeing it up in the Auld Grey Toon this weekend…
Big names who missed the AIG Women’s Open cut
Yuka Saso +7
Saso’s remarkable rise saw her lift the US Open title this year, but the 23-year-old is yet to master the windy environs of the links just yet.
Catriona Matthew +7
A bona fide LPGA legend, Matthew bowed out on her 30th consecutive appearance in this championship at her favourite course of all. The 54-year-old Scot had an emotional walk across the Swilcan Bridge for the final time as a pro on Friday. How fitting that she ended with a birdie.
Minjee Lee +9
The Aussie had shown promising signs with a T12 finish at last week’s Scottish Open at Dundonald, but this was a miserable end to her major season.
• McEwan: St Andrews is over-used. It’s time to cut back.
Brooke Henderson +9
Henderson’s eagle on the par-5 14th on Friday was the highlight of an otherwise poor week. The Canadian has not threatened in the majors since her T3 in The Chevron at the start of the season.
Jin Young Ko +10
With rounds of 76 and 78, this was a week to forget for the two-time major champion on the links. Ko is still without a victory this season.
Gemma Dryburgh +10
Dryburgh was desperate for a strong week here to force herself into Suzanne Pettersen’s Solheim Cup plans, but the damage was done for the Aberdonian with Thursday’s 79.
Stacy Lewis +12
The US Solheim Cup captain won the last renewal of this event at the Home of Golf in 2013. “I’ve won a lot of tournaments and several since then, but I don’t know how you top it,” she told bunkered.co.uk. There’ll be no repeat of that magic this time around.
Karrie Webb +15
It’s been 22 years since the all-time great from Australia won this tournament at Turnberry. She is one of this tournament’s greatest ever players, but never looked like troubling the cut mark here.
