ANDREW JOHNSTON | PGA TOUR

Andrew Johnston (aka Beef) has earned his PGA Tour card for the 2016/17 season after finishing fourth in the Web.com Tour’s Albertsons Boise Open.

The Englishman, who had the 36-hole lead at Hillcrest Country Club after opening with rounds of 66 and 63, faltered slightly over the weekend but did more than enough to book his PGA Tour ticket for next season.

“Man, I can’t wait” – Andrew Johnston

And, after grabbing his maiden European Tour win at the Spanish Open in April – securing his exemption through until 2018 – Beef will now be playing a schedule that accommodates both tours.

“Man, I can’t wait,” said Andrew Johnston after finishing fourth, which followed up a T28 finish at last week’s DAP Championship. “Happy days. I came over and had a couple good weeks, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“I have expectations for myself to go out and compete and do well and that, but you’ve got to put the work in and prepare well for it, and that’s the first step before I go out and play in any event.”

Over the past six months, Andrew Johnston’s popularity has sky-rocketed. He took social media by storm after winning at Valderrama when he said he’d be ‘getting smashed’ and then finished T8 at the Open Championship – where his fanbase continued to grow.

And he admitted celebrations would be in a similar vain after securing his PGA Tour card.

“A few sodas,” joked Andrew Johnston. “Yeah, I think there will be a Coke or a Fanta or something like that. Nah, there are going to be a few beers, man.”

Somewhat ironically, the win also came on National Cheeseburger Day in America!
