Tour events, the Ryder Cup and the Olympics, France has hosted it all.

And that’s why the country attracts both the best players in the world and hordes of visitors each year.

From immaculate inland courses to tricky links setups, France has the ideal blend of modern gems and old-school classics.

Here’s a few of our favourites…

Terre Blanche

Green fee: €190

Tucked away in a hidden corner of Provence on the edge of the Côte d’Azur, Terre Blanche has two stunning courses that bask in the 300 days of sunshine it gets each year. The Château is all the rage, however, and it’s a beaty. Carved out of the wild and hilly landscape, this is pristine parkland.

Le Golf National

Green fee: €220

Another on the high-end of the green fee scale, but one that will find itself on most golfers’ bucket lists. L’Albatros, 20 miles west of Paris, captures idiosyncrasies you’d find on courses in Florida, Ireland and France. A firm test of golf, the thick rough and slippery greens will test all parts of your game.

Golf d’Hardelot

Green fee: €100

Les Dunes is one of two courses at Golf d’Hardelot that offer exceptional value. It’s our pick of the pair thanks to the impressive layout which winds through lakes, dune mounds and wooded valleys. Opened in 1991, this is one of France’s finest modern courses and is highly popular for visitors all-year round.

Evian Resort

Green fee: €135

Home to the Amundi Evian Championship, you’ll struggle to find a better stage to play golf. Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps, it undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in France – if not anywhere. In expectedly splendid condition, it twists and turns and winds up and down.

Golf d’Etretat

Green fee: €90

Over 100 years old, the 18-hole course at Golf d’Etretat is regularly ranked among the best in France. Why? Well, words don’t do the views here justice, with the sea in view from every single hole. A straightforward setup and easy walk, so savour the spectacular coastal scenery.
