Could we really see a Ryder Cup-style match between the best players on the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League?

Well, Brooks Koepka has certainly hinted as much.

The five-time major champion and his foe-turned-friend Bryson DeChambeau are taking on Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in ‘The Crypto.com Showdown’ at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas next week.

And while it is not being sanctioned by either circuit, the high-profile match is being billed as a rivalry between the traditional tour and the Saudi-backed breakaway league.

“Let’s be real — wouldn’t you want to see a LIV versus PGA Tour Ryder Cup-style thing?” Koepka said ahead of the made-for-TV match. That is what it is. This is growing into a big thing. That’s what will draw the fans.”

DeChambeau also suggested this contest can be a precursor for a future Ryder-Cup style event.

“The showdown is a great showcase for bringing the two tours a bit together,” DeChambeau said.

“And I think what we’re doing to do next year, all of us aligned, is bringing something a little bigger and badder, so we can have a couple of times — at least one more time — where we can see most of the best players on both sides competing.”

Promoting the showdown, Koepka also stressed that this is more than just an exhibition against two of his former PGA Tour rivals in Scheffler and McIlroy.

“We don’t want to lose,” he added. “This isn’t anything other than just us being competitive and wanting to beat those guys and, and show them who, who the best players in golf are.”

“I truly think you’ve got the biggest figure in golf in Bryson and then one of the (golfers with the) most majors. We’ve got a lot going on our side.

“We want to beat them, we want to showcase the world we’re the top two dogs.”
